not really the appropriate thread but related - does anyone know the bassinet seats in J on QF7 (A380).

Flying to DFW in a couple of weeks and really want to make sure we get one!

Call QF. Bassinet seats in J are usually blocked to all so that even P1s can't grab them on booking. I hope there are some for you.

On the topic of bassinets, QF just told me that I can't reserve a bassinet seat and it needs to be allocated on check in.

Is this correct or am I getting a really bad run of agents?

They said they will add a note to the booking but can't guarantee the bassinet.

I know they won't "guarantee" a seat, but what's wrong with assigning the relevant seats in advance?

What kind of **** process is this?

Agent
I can go ahead and process the request for Bassinet seats for you.
Can I please have your full name/s, flight details (destination and date of travel) and booking reference?

Me
<redacted>
Can the seats that contain bassinets be reserved now? Ie 1AB or 1JK

Agent
Perfect. Thank you. Bassinet seats can only be requested however it will need to be confirmed at the airport when you check-in.
Shall we proceed?

Me
Can the seats be assigned to us now?

Agent
Bassinet seats are unable to be reserved it can really be confirmed only when you check-in.

Me
That's disappointing, how are they allocated on check in?

Agent
When the request for Bassinet seat is already made, during check-in you will have the Bassinet seats when it is confirmed.

Me
Would I need to check in early then?

Agent
You can check-in within 24 hours prior to departure date.
Through Manage Your Booking.

Me
So if i use online checkin the system will have us assigned to a bassinet seat?

Agent
It will still depend if it will be confirmed.

Me
What is the confirmation process?

Agent
The seat that will be allocated for you would be the Bassinet seat already.

Me
But it is only allocated on check in? That's confusing

Agent
Yes, since it will need to be confirmed with our airport staff.

Me
So if I use online check in normally the process includes selecting a seat?

Agent
When you check-in you will have an automatic allocated seats.

Me
But you said airline staff need to confirm the seats?

Agent
Yes, that is correct.

Me
So it's allocated on check in and then reconfirmed by an airport staff?

Agent
Yes, that is correct.

Was that through the online chat @Falcs?

Yes. That was 2nd attempt after call center which said the same thing more or less ie. I can't pre select a seat that contains a bassinet such as 1AB, I can only "reserve" a bassinet that is allocated on check in.

Ah okay. Was going to say that the chat agents don't always seem to know what they're talking about. Whole thing seems silly to me.

They said the same to me but bassinet was allocated not long after phone call.

Hang up and call again!
