I just love the irony.End of March we turn off the lights for an hour to save the planet.Two months later we turn them on all night for 3 weeks.

Except they are only on under 11pm - turned on at 6pm.

And after the walk we watched some local rugby. Kaikoura gave Kaiapoi a good touch up 39-12 with snow capped mountains in the background.

The view from home yesterday and Monday. Had to get permission to remove this gum, it really wasn't well and rotten inside, but it's still a shame. We have another bigger one closer to the house which will be a nightmare to remove, hopefully we'll move before it needs to go.

Inside is absolutely wonderful too. Even the loos are ornate. We had tea and cakes there. Just marvelous.

The amusing thing about people turning lights off for an hour is that the same amount of electricity is produced, the excess is just shed onto a load bank meaning there is no actual impact other than they warm fuzzy feeling people get thinking they're helping.

Is the load bank a large resistance heater, so would contribute to global warming .

The Stonewaller room is still the same, but this was described to us as the new hors d'oeuvres room and it immediately adjoins the lunch room. My mother would have called it the 'horses doovers' room but its better described as the place where you have pre-lunch drinks (Riesling and then Black Shiraz in our case) and canapés (house cured duck prosciutto , Romesco and quince).

ps you read it here first - they are adding Saturday onto the lunch roster; only one a month to start with, to see how it goes.

No BP left from current release, but they had 2 museum releases for sale . '98 bottle and '08 magnum IIRC.
