Your phone at airport security

There is the magical invention called "the internet". You may have heard about it.
Anyway one of the truly magical things about "the internet" is that it's able to get ones and zeros, sometimes called "data", sometimes called "illegal content" to other countries. In fact customs have no idea what's in this so called "data".

There is even ways you can do it so that no government in the world can track your activities... If you really wanted to do bad stuff... Imagine that.

So as I politely hand over my laptop or phone, I'll be sitting safe knowing that there is 100% absolutely no way that someone doing bad stuff could ever get data in or out of this country without customs knowing........ Oh.

Coming out of Beijing last time I had the issue of an immigration official starting to look at my phone.Wanted to know password.
I told him take a jump very expressively. Got the phone back real quick but if push had come to shove....?????

I imagine that it the traveler fitted certain profile criteria, then a quick look on the phone or laptops images content may prove interesting for the security bods ( eg just back from some Thai 'resorts'). There are many other things on electronic devices, or their set up, which could feed into a profile question and lead to further investigation.

I have no problems with them going through my collectons of rock and mining photos, or my trip reports on AFF :) ;)
