Hi guys,

Hoping to make a J QR redemption for August 2019 shortly (when availability opens up). Happy to go out of any port. Availability over June / July 2019 looks really scarce. Is that just peak time or is QR notoriously hard to get award tickets?

QR J seats seem very rare. Also you've posted this in the Cathay Pacific forum.

Sorry, probably should have explained, looking at making the redemption using Asia miles.

And wasn’t sure if limited availability was an Asia miles issue or just QR award issue across the board.

And ADL would almost be the preferred port, but would happily go out wherever.

Both QR & CX J award seats seem to have dried up from about mid June2019. I’ve been watching a couple of routes on a daily basis for about a month, and there’s been very little J stock available (but plenty of Y...).

What sectors are you interested in?
Are you searching on the BA site too?
Don’t forget Married Sector Control - both QR & CX use MSC on many routes, so searching for a single sector may show no seats, while a through connection will work.

Yeah that’s what I have been seeing as well. I’m thinking / hoping it’s just peak summer Europe demand.

So we are heading to EBB. There is plenty of award availability on QR from Doha. It’s just getting to Doha that appears to be the problem. So would be happy to go out of any Aussie port to get there with QR.

WHat is MSC exactly? That is a new term to me. I’ve currently only been searching to Doha, in the belief of if there is no availability to there then no luck getting to EBB.

MSC is where sector A-B & B-C can only be booked as A-B-C; they can’t be booked individually.
But that doesn’t appear to be your issue.
I just checked a random week in late July 2019, departing from any of Mel, Syd, Bris, Ade, Can, for EBB, and not one J seat was available. But doing a search for the same week as DOH-EBB came up with 4 J seats on the first date I checked.
As you say, the issue is getting out of OZ.

If you can’t get a QR flight out of OZ, one alternative you can try is to take MH to KUL, and then get QR from there (Not ideal, but sometimes you need to compromise...)
