It's time to go again. And for us, this is the daddy of them all.
It started yesterday in Melbourne and will end back in Melbourne, all being well on June 10. The itinerary is:
MEL-SYD in QF Y
Christmas with family in Sydney and the Blue Mountains
SYD-AKL in NZ Y+
AKL-SYD-SFO in QF J
9 days in San Francisco
San Francisco to London Greenwich on Silversea's Silver Whisper, the long way round, sailing for 133 days.
LHR-CDG in BA Y
7 days in Paris
ORY-LCY in BA Y
11 days in London
LHR-HKG in VS J
3 days in Hong Kong
HKG- MEL in CX J
The trip has been a long time in the planning. We got the idea on a previous Silver Whisper cruise 16 months ago and decided that if we were going to do it it had better be soon as the years were catching up. It will be our 15th cruise so we know the drill though we've never done one like this. It will be a challenge in many ways. We have previously sailed with a few people who will be on the trip and several friends will be joining us for one or two segments.
The trip has got off to a precarious start. I noticed a pimple on my cheek 10 days ago and, when it didn't go away I showed it to Turtle 2 last Thursday who felt the GP should have a look. Turtle 2 is a retired doctor. The GP biopsied it and the report came back as an SCC. So off it was chopped on Friday and I've gone away with 4 stitches and a face bandage. We are hoping the pathology report comes back saying it is all gone. This is not my first and they are the result of a childhood and youth spent largely on the beach with Celtic skin. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
The drama increased last night when, on a middle of the night bathroom run I managed to kick the wheel of my suitcase. That woke me up. I now know why people complain about the size of Hilton Sydney rooms. This morning the toe was a pretty shade of purple, swollen and on a slightly different angle. Turtle2's verdict is that it is broken and it will get better!
So Turtle2 has gone off to the family Christmas in Katoomba and I am sitting on the bed in the Hilton with a raised foot. I can hobble around quite reasonably and without a lot of pain so this will just be a limiting factor for a while.
We are looking forward to our trip and I hope it might prove interesting to others as we are going to some very varied places. Given there is just so much you can say about bingo and trivia on sea days I'll probably be inconsistent as to when I post.
