I had to look it up.

According to Roy Morgan research as of March last year there are 2.1 million people living in Australia said they ate a complete or mainly vegetarian diet. That makes up 8.7% of the population.

Apparently this number is increasing.

Quite right. That calculation is wrong. Another article mentions 2.1 million people with roughly 8.7% of the population.

Vegans are vegetarian but not all vegetarians are Vegans.

As it’s that high, I guess I won’t be allowed to eat meat soon, or have pets, or a feather doona, or cheese with my wine, or....... Australia, the sucky lucky country

This statistic means Sweet Fanny Adams. I can claim this, because I am part of the statistic.

We have a small veggie patch in the front yard (because that's our northerly aspect & besides mowing lawns sucks the rancid prawn). Depending on the time of year & how well-planned I've been, we get probably 90% of the meals we eat at home from the garden.
(a) it's hard to grow a cow in 6m x 6m of yard, and
(b) I have Fat cough tendencies,
so for what we eat at home, we try to eat mostly what's from the garden, and we very rarely buy meat.

That doesn't make me a vegetarian. I love a steak! My wife's German, she loves (proper - not Colesworths quality) snags! It's not that great for me, I know, in large quantities … but every so often we splurge, we spent $70 (from a proper butcher) on a pair of dry-aged Angus rib-eyes for lunch on Saturday and Oh My Facetious Grandfather they were good!

So we're in that statistic. We're "mostly" vegetarian. I'd probably average … two meals with meat a week.
Mostly vegetarian is NOT "vegetarian"!
Plus most vegetarians are NOT vegan.
And hence the statistic really doesn't mean anything much if someone is talking about support for a bunch of DO WHAT I SAY! DO WHAT I SAY!!! DO WHAT I SAY!!! tools.
QF should revoke THEIR membership from the CL (because frankly it'd be good publicity & aren't the CL's on the second floor meaning someone would have to climb some stairs to get in, precluding vegans because they don't have the energy to get up a flight of stairs so they wouldn't even be missing out?).

And? Meat production is apparently the second biggest generator of green house gasses. User pays. If you want to eat meat, pay for the clean up to the environment the rest of us have to endure.

A Newspoll in 2010 found 5% of Australians claimed they were vegetarian but only 2% had an exclusively vegetarian diet.
Must have decided not to ask about the diet since as I can't find more up to date figures.
Sanitarium claim at least 44% of Australians eat a vegetarian meal on most days with only 1 or 2 meat meals.
Now I have the occasional vegetarian meal but I still claim to be a Meatatarian.

Just extend GST to meat.

I think we've gone way too far in trying to censor people's opinions.

Let's face it not everyone is going to think the same. His comments will offend some people (not all people) but rightly or wrongly they are his beliefs.

The way we are headed right now and the Borg becomes a reality. That's not a life I want to have where I'm told what I'm allowed to believe or think.
