We are flying SYD-SIN-LHR with SQ. We then have a separate booking that I have made with SAS to fly us LHR-ARN. (An award trip)
These are 2 seprarate bookings, but with e-tickets etc, maybe we could print out them as one itenerary.
My question is: Will the staff at SYD checkin our luggage all the way up to ARN?
Will they check us in all the way?

I am trying to calculate the amount of time we need at LHR and obviously if we are checked in all the way, we can just move on to the gate for the SAS-flight (SQ andSK are both Terminal3)

Hi - welcome to AFF

Hope you are heading to ARN with warm clothes!

the last two times I have travelled to ARN, both times I have had airline switches at FRA. Once Lufthansa and once SAS - both times I have been QF from MEL/FRA. I also did a MEL/LHR with an airline switch to a SAS for the ARN leg.

Every time my luggage has arrived fine...

If it's your first time to sweden, I hope you enjoy it! Stockholm is an enjoyable city - make sure you go north!!!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
Sorry I should have beeen more clear; I am Swedish (but my dad is from Sydney). Yes, Sweden is nice, but nothing beats the wonderful summers in Sydney with the beaches etc...... :)
We are actually flying ARN-LHR-SIN-SYD return.

I am most worried about the homebound trip from SYD.

Its not just 2 airlines SQ+SK its also 2 separate bookings ( 1 via travel agent=SQ + 1 one I that I made via SAS web page)

Will the staff in SYD still check our luggage through all the way to ARN?

SQ/SK do have an interline agreement so if you produce both itineraries at SYD check-in they should be able to check luggage all the way through to ARN.

If you are only able to check the luggage through to LHR then you may need ~3 hours, possibly more, between flights in LHR, especially since you have separate itineraries, to factor in possible delays, collecting luggage and check-in again.

Hej Tina123! As indicated by JohnK, they have an interlining agreement and this shouldn't be a problem usually. Safest? Call SQ and ask them to note your onward flight/reservation to ARN and ask if they will check all the way through. They'll most likely say "yes, under normal circumstances this will be ok, but we can't guarantee that this will happen if there are unforeseen factors which arise".

I wouldn't calculate any less than 2hrs transit on separate itineraries through LHR and more if you do actually need to recheck your bags. Keep in mind that your travel insurance quite possibly won't cover you for a missed onward connection on a separate booking.

Ha det trevligt!

Thanks for your replies.

I did e-mail SQ, but they said they couldnt merge the 2 bookings.
Maybe I should talk to them again and see is they can write something in the booking about our next flight with SAS.

I was thinking of writing one itinerary with the 2 bookings together.
It might be useful at the airport, especially ARN, where they dont like to check peolple in all the way on 2 bookings.

Bookings can't be "merged", but the passenger record can have other data added, such as your booking number for the other flight. You would also need to contact SK and ask them the same thing for the return. Writing up one itinerary is unlikely to be of any greater benefit than presenting the additional printed out e-ticket.

There is no point in creating one itinerary as it will not mean anything. They are still 2 separate bookings with 2 separate booking references and 2 lots of flights that will only appear separately to the check-in agent when they view a specific booking reference.

A phone call to SQ informing them of onward SK flights and the same with SK informing them of onward SQ flights should be more than enough.

While you are in transit in Singapore I would visit the transit counter and speak to a SAS representative and ask if they can check you in for the LHR/ARN flight on SK. You really want to avoid at all costs having to check-in at Heathrow.

You will be able to give them the SQ bag tag number that has been through checked from SYD to ARN. Maybe just take a note of the bag weight in case this info doesn't generate from SQ to SK.

I have a feeling SQ depart from Changi Terminal 1 so not sure whether SAS will have representation there or whether you will have to go to Terminal 2 for that.

If you can't get this done in SIN I would try internet check-in from a kiosk at Changi Airport as a last resort but because LHR/ARN is an international sector you may not be able to because a computer can't check the passport validity and visa requirements.....yet.

Good luck!

Ok thanks again for really good advice!

I will contact SQ and SK.

Unfortunately SK doesnt fly to SIN, so I doubt they will have a representative there. (Soon they dont fly anywhere....?)

SQ arrive/depart from Terminal 3 to/from Europe/Oz.
