I have seen $1 a day and often also a petrol allowance on offer from time to time with www.standbycars.com.au, in fact they have some now at that rate for BNE to SYD, but they only give your three days or so, still not a bad deal!

The Avis one is into Sydney ... maybe people are staying away from Sydney as it's a coughpy place!:lol:

Which would suggest that there are a lot of one ways out of Sydney. Either that or they just registered a bunch in Queensland that they need to get down to NSW :)

There used to be a rort where rental companies (and also some leasing companies/fleet managers) would register cars in cheaper states for registration, but then move the cars to other states to live.

I think this has been dealt with by the various registration organisations though - so most cars will now be registered correctly in the states where they are rented.

I really wouldn't have thought that there would be a requirement to move so many cars though - wondering whether I want a Brisbane-Sydney roadtrip one weekend soon!

It is hard to predict when these specials will appear otherwise I wouldn't mind taking a hire car from Melbourne to Sydney for 7 days at $10 a day.

Hmmm. My current Hertz rental car in Melbourne has Queensland number plates....

Seperate issues. Cars move all around Australia due to rental patterns. But where Eg. a company in NSW has all VIC plated cars, it's a concern to some.

Will be looking for an appropriate media article at some stage soon :)

Used to wonder why i got a WA plated car most times I rented from a certain "no birds" rental company in th cross when they did not allow thier cars to be taken interstate, especialy when I once got a car with WA plates and 10 km's on it! Funnily enough they did have an outlet in Bayswater, WA.
