Arrived at the MQL terminal yesterday morning to check-in my bag for QF2079 through to MEL to find the terminal packed - but all QF check-in counters closed!
Conveniently - QF2078 ex MEL proceeded to land, but unable to pull up at the terminal (no one with table tennis racquets to guide them in).
Security screening lane, cafe, all rental booths - all operational and staffed - but where are the QF people?
Airport management ended up guiding the plane up to the terminal - screening staff shouted out to the 19 pax that were lined up, apparently the local QF staff (contractors?) were told not to come in due to the flight being cancelled.
3 x staff turned up around 20 mins later - one of which, credit where credit is due - has been there for years, seems to be the only local bind to the Mildura QF operation.
Credit to them for getting everything checked in - and turning the flight around pretty quickly.

I hope your experience is not the canary in the coal mine of what we can expect travelling in Covid normal!! Perhaps we can all pitch up and throw the bags into the hold ourselves and I make a good coffee!!
