Thinking about doing a trip report as I go or do it when I return. So might be a bit ad hoc.

On arrival at LAX it’s off to Alamo to collect the rental car.

The plan is first night Palm Springs Hilton then head east to Roswell NM and up to Durango to the ride the slim gauge.

We got some good train photos from an earlier trip, so fingers crossed for this one.

Uneventful flight. Very fast through the airport. I would say the fastest I’ve even experienced at LAX.

Picked up the ‘small’ SUV and checked into the Palm Springs Hilton. They staff were very accommodating (as many customer services people are in the US) and handed me the room key at 11am.

The hotel is one block from the ye olde town centre tourist shops.

So I have wandered around and now having a cone with ice cream as big as a babies head (apologies to Bill Bryson for that one).

These are just phone snaps so you’ll be bombarded again when I get home and down load the the proper camera.

When you upload photos from the phone they appear as attachments. click the top left han corner and it will prompt you as to whether you want the thumbnail or full image posted. Well at least that's how it works for me.

By night. It did seem to take a lot longer to load up the photo embedded so that may or may not happen depending where I am.

Driving i10, Tucson, snow storm, nitric acid truck accident closed both directions, drove past 3 other trucks off the road.

Finally arrived White Sands Missle Range AFB Holloman.

White Sands is hone to the Trinity Site, the first atomic bomb test. It also houses the rocket sled track ridden by men of the right stuff such as Chuck Yeager.

Today was the morning at the UFO museum in Roswell. If you love you conspiracy theory’s this is a place for you.

The whole town has joined in and it’s a tourist attraction. I personally believe we’d be silly to think there is no other life forms in the universe apart from earth (even if just some slim) but the museum has plenty of statements but no evidence, just hearsay.

One retailer did try to sell me some soil from the 1947 crash site. They seemed pretty convinced the Air Force took the alien bodies to Area 51. I declined the soil.

While Roswell is an out of the main road place it’s worth the amusement and I went 23 years ago as well.
