Sarajevo, gave my feet a rest today as I've been hitting 20-30k steps/day for the past few weeks, so only did enough to get to 10k

The old town.



Unfortuately the view from my villa offers no car park.

I walked up to the Red Fortress to see the sunset, which felt even steeper than the walk I did a few days ago in Blagaj albeit this one was all on paved roads.

Well, they had to beat at least someone other than themselves I can give my mate a good ribbing for it at least, he used my member tickets (yeah .... still have 'em .....) to watch (he's a Roos supporter).

This afternoon’s office, the “Tunnel of Hope” under the airport in Sarajevo, engineered, dug out and constructed in 1993 during the siege of Sarajevo. Our guide was a 10-14 year old boy during those years, so his account was first hand. He emphasised his information was also completely factual and could be verified. He was an excellent guide during our two days here.

Was that the original tunnel? Well, the 25m that was still open.

It's no longer open if so, I did the Fall of Sarajevo tour today and you can only wander through a reconstructed version now. We also went up to Trebević to see the now abandoned Bobsled track; was interesting reading about the holes the Serbs poked through it to use for their guns and shooting at people. We listened to a really powerful speech from Joe Biden on the drive up there, back when he could really sock it to you. Quite different to his speeches these days!

I think I prefer Mostar to Sarajevo, but that's more so because I like smaller towns rather than big cities I guess. Both have a lot of history and tragedy of course.

I didn't think Sarajevo was all that big, as cities go.
I liked Mostar too, but it was quite different.

We went through Sarajevo in 1976 and while I can't remember all that much of it I do remember that it was a very pleasant place. Especially compared to some of the other Yugoslavian cities in those days.

It's still a lovely city, despite all it has been through. There's still quite a lot of visible damage from the 1992-96 siege.

En route Perth-Newman before heading into Rudall River NP on Wednesday. A lazy 600 clicks from home today and encountering a Main Roads WA 24h stop about 60km south of Mt Magnet at about 1700h was PERfect timing.

Full moon, dead still, a glass or two of a classic Margs SBS while setting up camp, then heating up a Thai red curry cooked a few days ago with some rice and a couple of glasses of a rather juicy Margs Cab Franc.

Thought of posting in Little Things I Like thread. Toss up.

Yes, that was part of the original tunnel. You saw men coming up those stairs in the video where the lady was giving them water. Our guide considered the newly-built pretend tunnel a joke! It was far too big and wide to provide any sort of example.

Perhaps there were some repairs or reinforcing needed?
