I have 5 reservations for stays in various Australian CP and IC hotels until December and the total price includes a new "Total Hotel Service Charges" of 1.5% .

This charge is also shown on a stay using my 4 free nights (from the recent stay 2 get 1 free promo). I presume they used the best flex rate to determine the charge?

It's a credit card surcharge, only applicable on amounts charged to a credit card.

The wording on the website is wrong.

I stayed at the HI on Flinders (Melbourne) last Wednesday night. The amount showed on the booking but the hotel staff knew nothing about it until I showed them. The charge was not applied and I paid using an Amex card.

I didn't realise it was national, as I saw a statement on one booking site the other night for a hotel I was looking at that there would be a 1.5% charge from the end of this week as I recall for payments by credit card. Bummer.

Just stayed at the IC Melbourne (Rialto) and there were signs at both the check-in desk and also in the room about the service fee.

I was also warned at check-in about the charge and again at check-out about the charge.

I prepaid my accommodation and the charge is not applied to that... At this stage....

Gold Coast International Hotel charge a whopping 3.5% for use of my CC which I thought was very expensive!!!
