E ticket number - the extra 2 digits - what does it mean?

Hi everyone, apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere.

I booked a qantas flight with multicities. I’ve got a Qantas e ticket number 13 digits then followed by a dash with 2 additional numbers. ie 081 xx_xx_xx_X-XX.

Does anyone know what the extra numbers mean?

I’ve had multiple schedule changes and the last few times it’s been ok with just only 13 digits. Then this most recent schedule change when I checked to make sure it has been reticketed correctly via rj.com, the first 13 digits match but the last 2 digits after the dash doesn’t appear on rj.

I am assuming it’s ok unless I need to start worrying about it.

No need to be concerned.

This is how multiple “coupon” numbers are reflected in a booking and is a system limitation.

So at ticket 081-xx_xx_xx78-81 would indicate you have four coupons in your ticket ending in 78, 79, 80 and 81.

It goes back to the old paper tickets where you had a max of 4 sectors on a single paper coupon. Once it goes past 4 sectors, it generates the next coupon to continue the ticket.

My last trip was 5 sectors, CBR-SYD-HND-SIN-MEL-CBR.
081-xx_xx_xx92-93
If I didn't return via SIN, but instead flew HND-SYD on the return, it would have been 4 sectors and not have the -93.
Meanwhile, if I had flown NRT-MEL or NRT-BNE, it would have counted HND-NRT as a sector and remained with 5 sectors.
