What cheeses me off

I managed to create a nice catch-22 for myself.

I've been struggling with M1 golf driver from the day I bought it 7 years ago. Spent $700 and constantly playing out of trees, bunkers and water hazards.
Save your money and leave the misbehaving driver in the bag and hit 3-wood. Then the only catch-22 is sacrificing some distance for the ease of playing from the fairway. Henrik Stenson won the silver medal at Rio and the Open in 2016 and a truckload of cash with this strategy. A lot of amateurs would do well to do the same.

I don't yet have a 3-wood. Struggle with woods off the deck. I have a 3-rescue.

I've also lost a lot of distance. In the sim at Drummond I was hitting driver from 160yds-215yds. Funny thing in reality it's worse as mostly hit <200yds but all over the place.

I'm really struggling and struggling even more to understand how I went from 17.9 to 14.9 handicap in 8 games with only 2 wipes. Irons getting me out of trouble often.

QR .. love hate relationship at check in.

Join the F queue. You can't be here. Ummmm.... I point to the Emerald logo showing on the sign.

No, you have to join the business queue.

No thanks, I'll wait here and walk straight up to the desk thanks very much.

I know in DOH their F check in they will only do F pax, but LHR and PER they tried to do the same. DOH doesn't show Emerald icon. Others do.

That's actually a furphy, recreational golfers are only 1-2% more likely to hit the fairway with a 3W vs Driver, yet you give up distance. Just hit driver assuming that the extra distance won't put you into a hazard.

When you have been checking on timings and waiting for the booking window to open for weeks, today is the day to book and for the life of me I can't remember my password 😂. Move away from the computer, distract myself with something else, come back and log in normally.

Ah. Still not there.

But wait, there's more.

For those playing along, it's for Shinkansen tickets Tokyo to Kyoto during Cherry Blossom time. And I'm very specific as to which seats we want.

And chat bots. You ask a question. Can't help so flick to a person. Good. Start the chat. Ask a question. Chat person goes away for a bit and comes back to the chat and gives me an answer. But not to the question I asked. Sigh.

Often those "Chat Person" people handle several chats at a time - and rotate between customer responses. A bit like plying multiple games of chess at once.

I was one who just couldn't hit a wood but ended up with at least a chance of being on the fairway with a 1 iron. I would not have got along with Lee Trevino.

This mornings conversation was started at 7pm last night. It's funny when they read it at 7.30am the next morning and instead of saying 'good morning I've updated the chat' the wording is like you've been waiting all night for them to respond 😂. I knew they closed off at 8,30pm.

True.

My record with a 3-rescue is quite good and I can hit a fairway 70%-80% of the time if not more but distance is 150yd-180yd which leaves a long way to go considering most par 4's are 350yd-420yd off the white or middle/forward tees. The problem is the 20%-30% that miss fairway are in trouble a long way from the green.

The Arccos stats (that you've presumably googled) do not understand that distance off the tee is of value only in relation to position. 3-wood accuracy as poor as your driver? Hit a 5-wood, a hybrid/rescue or an iron. Something on the fairway is going to be in a better position more often than a wayward drive. The strategy is not a furphy - see Tiger at Royal Liverpool in 2006.

Is that the Shinkansen app? I can’t recall what it’s called.

If so, I thought you could only buy the tickets when actually in Japan ?

And Shot Scope, and every other tracker. I'm merely pointing out that your statement above that a 3-wood alone is a panacea to driver woes is false. Yes, Tiger used his 2 iron and occasionally 3-wood to great effect in 06, but he's freaking Tiger and would have outdriven half the field with those clubs anyway.

Modern strokes gained analytics, not just Arccos, which measures tee to green, has proven that being closer to the hole is more advantageous in any case. As with anything, one needs to weigh up their own strategy on each hole. I mean there's 2 par 4s on my home course that I pretty much always hit less than driver, and that's because driver has the potential to get me into trouble.

Happy to agree to disagree. And feel free to reach out if you're ever looking for a tee time in Melbourne's outer south east ;)

You can purchase and then either load the ticket to the suica ap if you know the number, or present the QR at a ticketing office at the station.

All booked one way on SmartEx app. Going in style, Green car, Fuji side
Well, I stuffed that up on my last visit. For some reason I thought SmartEx would only work inside Japan for foreigners - somehow, for some reason … I forget now. 😡 Only bought my tickets on the day but they were really just transport fortunately, not for viewing.

The only reason I bought so early was it's Cherry blossom time and we wanted the luggage space. I overkill as always. And we knew we had to be there on that day.
