Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

So, congratulations to South Australia for winning the one day cup, must be their first bit of silverware a long time.....

Hopefully they will repeat that with winning the Sheffield Shield. :)
MrP's last winning one day cup was shown during highlights of the match on Saturday. The team has selected interstate players who are on the cusp of Test selection but still not made the grade permanently yet.

Dunno @Pushka I think Cooper Connolly had 3 or 4, but had played for AUS in white ball. Gone are the days when Shield runs/wickets were mandatory before consideration for test call up. Now it's not even a bonus or handy.

Still, horses for courses policy is fine by me, provided it's executed with some consistency. Which cannot be said for decisions based on form.

Yes that's the one I was thinking of. No Sheffield shield experience and selected for the long game. 🤷‍♀️

Highest score for a while at that ground.. but agree looked like we missed a few opportunities.

So the final of the champions trophy (champions of what?) being held in Pakistan, will be played in Dubai…

Unfortunately, TV ratings and income meant that India not travelling to Pakistan didn’t mean forfeiting their participation.

I still reckon that if they want to call it the champions trophy, that it should be the domestic champions from each nations one-day competition from the year before. WA won the 2023-24 comp so would’ve been representing Aus. I could get behind them in an international comp.

Nothing to do with State Legilsation. It was the AFL blocking it. All the SA Politicians, in Govt, were wanting it.

Shame.
Under the
Adelaide Oval Redevelopment and Management
Act 2011

The lease rights are held by the AFL from 15 March so yea the AFL blocked it because of their rights under the Act of Parliament

They had the rights to block it under contract law and could have rescinded those rights but decided to uphold them. That's a bit different to stating that the government legislation precluded it. It didn't. They didn't need to enforce those rights but chose to do so.

Same situAtion for the last multiple years in pretty much evey other state.
Want a big cricket ground for the final, finish in early March.

Adelaide Oval is slightly better with a fully drop-in pitch but it's more than just the pitch you need for both games

We shall agree to disagree

These dates are in an Act of parliament which I understood prevails but that’s my interpretation

Having worked with tax law framework for years, it was drilled into us that specific law overrode general principles or regulations.

It would be an interesting High Court decisions which I would expect would not favour crickets view. The politicians could amend the Act to ensure the final was played at Adelaide oval but haven’t. Appealing to footys better nature?

If the Premier was wanting the cricket to be played at Adelaide Oval and was part of the negotiations to do this and was very vocal (negatively ) yesterday that it didn't happen, then it wasn't a legislative stick point. Clearly AFL had the right but CA was doing everything possible to ensure it would be palatable including shifting the dates of the final. Given that the Mars stadium is built on concrete and there are often very damaging concerts played all during the season, the AFL cries of player safety don't come across well.

Understand but it's only in the early '90's that the AFL season started in March. And it was later March at that. It used to be April.

Where do they intend to host the game in Adelaide instead?

At least in Perth there's still the WACA, where all Shield games are played anyway.

Karen Rolton Oval
West terrace

Used to be the Railways Oval
Opposite the “new” RAH
Sadly poor parking. Used to be ok but not now. Maybe they will open up the parklands. Unless Jane doesn’t like cricket. Watched a few games there but the final deserves better.

Like this one 😉
