What cheeses me off

The things that you take for granted when you shop in Australia - find Betadine throat gargle great for fighting off the lurgy but no equivalent that I can find in the UK

If someone says I'm wrong happy for any links ;)

Ive already got 3 of these packed for Tues flight - fantastic product, never travel without

We arrive in the UK on Wed 30th if you want me to mail you some when we arrive to a UK address? We're arriving Manchester but first two nights will be in Liverpool

I am reliably informed by MrMac - (a golfer for 60 years) that once he starts to play badly it's a sign that he needs another club or a new putter. He's been trying to buy his way out of trouble for many many years
I thought so too but I was mistaken badly.

I've been struggling with Taylormade M1 driver for 8 years. Tried out 2 drivers in 2 different shops here and bought Cleveland Launcher II. Driver lasted 4 games in Thailand before cracking but even before then it was nothing special.

Used the M1 driver for last 4 games and it was OK. Also started putting cross handed again and putting slightly improved.

There are more stories but basically it's all in the mind.

When I moved to Switzerland, I quickly realised there's no such thing as self-raising flour over there (in fact, there isn't any in much of the world).

A quick Internet search and an expat forum thankfully revealed it's just regular (plain / all-purpose) flour with baking powder (sold by the tiny packet).

WCMO: Upcoming CX flight changes (not sure when) from 1:2:1 J to coughty regional 2:2:2 without warning. By chance just noticed and double whammy, the flight was empty and now all but full. SYD+1 and I are on seperate tix and seperate rows… No options to move…

Fortunately it’s a relatively short “day flight” to PEK.

WCMO is hotels that do not have (or have disabled) fans or air conditioners... double whammy if you can't open the windows.

"Oh, but the ambient weather is perfectly fine - no need for those."

...the purpose of said machines can be to cool a space, but more importantly IMO it is to move the air within the space, preventing it from being stale (and providing some measure of dehumidification).

Its going around ....

Got e-mail from QR today; my SIN-DOH and later, DOH-SIN have gone from 1-2-1 Q-Suite to 2-2-2 on A350-1000 B777-200 (haven't come across this on QR before). Asked me to re-select seats (most had gone) but then wanted to charge me S$112 to do it! (Being OW Emerald, it should be free).

Have sent an e-mail to the travel agent to sort it.

Pretty sure only QR 777s have 2:2:2 (but could be wrong)? But that’s the clanger as all other 777s have QSuites….

I suppose your flight dates are rather fixed, otherwise you might be able to invoke the QSuite Guarantee.

Yes, you are right. My error.

They offered that, but as they are 'day' flights trying to sleep won't be such a priority, so I'm OK (and yes, little flexibility anyway :) ).

They’re actually not bad seats. Maybe grab a middle seat for direct aisle access but there’s a huge amount of space. Think QF Skybed Mk2 with another foot or two between you and the seat in front.

Something funny going on. The text of the e-mail said

But the seat map they've given me I've just realised (d'oh! 😂 ) IS QSuite,

and they are still selling that flight as QSuite ....

But when I go into MMB on the QR site it gives me an error.. Hope the TA can fix it ...

Give a day or two to see what happens.

How far away is the flight?

We had one DOH-Euro sector that changed from QSuites to 2:2:2 but then changed again a week or two later to a 787 (maybe A350) several months out.

Best avoid Switzerland then 🤣 Many hotels do not have aircon, but some of the better ones at least have pretend cooling that keeps airflow going, even if not that effective on a hot summers day. Likewise with offices.

Used to live there - don't I know it! 😅😄

My office at the uni was in a concrete building. No AC, no fans, no ventilation. And my office window was fully facing the sun most of the day. To say I was cooking in summer would be understating it. Sometimes I worked in our break area to escape the heat.

Of course, that was my first (and only) Swiss summer and the first one in a while for Switzerland where we had temperatures comparable to an Australian humid summer, sans AC and buildings/dwellings built to promote airflow. Who knew heat blown from North Africa could be so fierce? (pretty much all of continental Europe was suffering)

But this gets back to my base point: it all would be more comfortable if the air moves, more than merely chilling a space.

A decent number of non-chain European hotels (though some chain hotels, too!) are as you describe, particularly in Germanic countries/regions. Some of them only have an AC (not reverse cycle), so they enable in summer but disable in winter (viz forced airflow for "half" the year). At least most can allow you to open the windows.

I will bore you with my long standing idea that all new hotels must have ceiling fans installed so at least the air moves

Brisbane International Airport.

Landed 6:37am on SQ235.

Exited quarantine 8:38am (no need for inspection)

I think there were around 6-7 flights landed around same time on Sunday morning. Very poor handling/management of queues at both immigration and quarantine. Is it like this every Sunday? Stressful. Very poor.

Luckily we are due to arrive into Sydney in September.
