Changi Matters

Always checking DF ex SIN for champs promos in specialty packaging - this was seriously cool this morning:

Neoprene type outer material with bottle and 2 tulips inside this is seriously cool - Piper doesn’t excite me but these would make fabulous unique gifts - let’s check the price:

S$128.20 = A$150.87 ……….. um no thanks - as unique as they are just no thanks

But I need half way decent champagne to take to next OT dinner with penegal, boomy and qaz instead of drinking the vinegar they bring along so:

= A$435 - getting up there huh but still significantly cheaper than Dans

With tariffs pending in the US we may need to go vinegar when we get from Changi to Los Angeles. Lucky I have a stash in the wine locker at the Cove in Marina del Rey.
I actually like PH Rare and Krug and not so much Cristal.
Need to book to get to the US soon but getting out of there might be hard with so many folks bailing out.

Not the wisest thing to do at Changi Airport

Transit question through Changi - If I was to purchase duty free alcohol at Bangkok then transit through Changi on my way to Melbourne, will the duty free booze be confiscated because Bangkok was not my *last* port before Melbourne? This is what I was told but I can't find any doco that supports this.....

That is my understanding, Singapore often cheaper anyway

It will be confiscated if it is in carry on
Ok if in checked luggage.

Possibly because the security checkpoints at SIN are at the gate which will comply with the liquids aerosol and gel restriction for Australia as the flight's destination it is checking is Australia.

Duty free purchased in SIN is not given to you immediately at purchase but taken to a holding area and given to you after you pass through the security checkpoints.

Any DF you buy before arriving in SIN - in your example BKK has to comply with the 100ml liquid restriction at the security checkpoint as that is an Australian requirement - because you are holding it when going through the security checkpoint.

Duty free alcohol will usually be confiscated in transit. Note if you have time in SIN transit then this is the place to purchase duty free alcohol as it's cheaper than BKK.

Note I did not check BKK departures on Saturday but there wasn't the usual duty free on arrival at BKK early April. The stalls have disappeared due to some disagreement.

This was not the case in December and also not the case on previous trips.

Wife travelling PER-SIN-CNX and I'm travelling PER-SIN-BKK and we bought duty free alcohol in SIN and we were given the bottles sealed at the store not the gate.

Perhaps it is only taken to the gate if travelling to Australia. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was all a measure put in place to protect Australian duty free stores.
