QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

BTW is there somewhere that I can look up how many points are needed for a seat before ringing the priority line and asking for the seats to be released? On some routes (e.g. HKG-SYD) there often aren't any seats available on any dates for months to use to get the data.

Edit - ignore this - I think that I have just found it!
Same points in either direction (68,400 in Biz). Plus HKD$760 HKG-SYD or A$166 SYD-HKG.

Actually quite a bit of availability, but does get snaffled quickly after it’s block released. No drama getting 2x J each way DIY for later in the year once I worked out the pattern for releasing seats….

Here's a spreadsheet which you can make a copy of to quickly look up points costs too. I've added in the new costs from August as well.

No joy trying to get a J seat released on either QF30 (HKG-MEL) or on QF128 (HKG-SYD) on Wednesday June 4th - any advice?

There's CX PE on the 4th - bookable directly with QF. 59,000 + fee but a morning "day flight" to SYD.

Obviously not as good value as QF J redemption but gets you to Oz in reasonable comfort.

There might be some round about options if you play around with multi-city.

Cheers @SYD - I will try to make something work. PE would be OK. Even a daytime flight in Y would be OK - in some ways it might be a better option than an overnight flight in J on QF - I've been doing that run a lot lately and what I am finding is that by the time they get the meal service done and then turn the lights off it and then turn the lights back on again at 4.30am for the breakfast service - you really only get about 5 hours of sleep time - then I have to do MEL to DPO at midday and then drive for an hour - and I'm getting too old for that.

It will depend on how much baggage allowance CX offer QF WP's as well - I'm going to be travelling with a lot of gear again.

For international seat release bookings, where the domestic connection is knocked back by the robot...

The written policy is that the domestic connection can be manually forced in as long as C class is available for J, or S class is available for Y, on the domestic on a standalone basis (eg. looking at just SYD-MEL separately as if it were a new commercial booking).

The agent needs to call a team coach to have this done. Regular agents don't have the access to do it.
I've got a SYD-HND J request confirmed, but need to get a MEL-SYD same day connection.

Called twice and only got Cape Town (not Hobart).

They can't call a team coach, only put in the request. From their end they are seeing no availability for any suitable times (ie the only ones they can see are too late).

Is this a matter of HUACA, hoping I can get someone from HBA?

Dropping from P1 sucks 😭

Possibly at least 40kgs.

I have a CX whY to QF J CR (one ticket) back to SYD and the QF app is showing 40kgs for both sectors.

What do you mean you didn't get Hobart? Qantas advertises it as a WP benefit:
PS: I haven't got Hobart in the last 10 months that I tried to call Qantas.1745916465013.png

Have just found a useful baggage calculator for CX - https://flights.cathaypacific.com/en_AU/baggage/baggage-calculator.html - unfortunately as is usually the case with two different airlines that supposedly work together there is no correlation between baggage allowances, and so because the daytime flights mean an overnight stop in Melbourne before I go on to Tassie the next morning I fall foul of the rule about international allowance only carries over to domestic if it is on the same day which leaves me with the stupid situation of CX HKG to MEL allowing 3x 23kg for a WP in Y, but on the domestic leg to TAS as a WP I get 2x 32. I swear that baggage allowances were designed purely to trip up and f..k up travellers!

I'm guessing that the QF folks on the end of the line can't request the droid to open a CR seat on a CX flight? (MEL-HKG so wouldn't be a QF codeshare).

Unfortunately, no.
Damn! Some of CX's flights are at far more convenient times than those of QF - especially if you have connecting flights to/from Tassie - we are starting to see a downside to the QF move to all Q400's - a reduction in flights and on some days like Thursdays the only flight to BWT departs too soon after flights like QF30 arrive into Melbourne. The other option is to fly MEL-DPO - but that requires a 9 hour layover in Melbourne in Melbourne on Thursdays - and as much as I like the QF pub...

Can to make HKG-CGK-MEL-xx_ work?

There’s a pleasant surprise CGK-MEL but @madrooster has mentioned before that interlining luggage via CGK *might* be problematic?

I will take a look at it - otherwise I might just CR the 11:15 CX flight to Melbourne which lands at 22:15 then overnight MEL and down to Tassie the next day.

Who did the initial release request? HBA? CPT?
