Best J seats on CX A330 SYD -HK -SYD

Would anyone be able to advise what are the best seats on the CX flight in J class SYD - HK - SYD?

I think it is an A330 airbus?

seriously though - CX normally uses 33B equipment on this route...seatguru.com doesn't flag any seats as 'good' only that row 11 should be avoided due to lavatory proximity.

Actually I agree with you - the seat system doesn't look very good.

I would prefer to sit looking forward like most other airlines.

What did you mean by thew 33B equipment?

33B - A330-300 is the aircraft - the B indicates this is their long-haul setup.

They also operate the A330 in a regional configuration which is shown as '330' I think...without the herringbone lie-flat J seats.

Normally they use 33B for SYD-HKG unless they have issues.

33B is the new config "Herringbone" which has mixed reviews. Some like it some don't.

330 is the older style A330 set up, I don't mind it but it is aged, and had loop based IFE last time I was on there last year.

Destinations in Aust. seem to be blessed with the 33B, but Cathay is known to change Aircraft/Aircraft config at the drop of a hat to suit them!

Based on Seatexpert's opinion Mrs Paddy and I went in 20K and 21K last year and loved it - a less crowded felling I think than the A's and D's.

We then went onto LHR and, again on Seatexpert's advice went upstairs on a 747 - even better up there and felt better service too.

We both loved the coffins!

Agree with Paddy55 - we gave seats 18K and 19K a whirl. K side is best as you're not facing anyone, plenty of OH storage on both sides of the aisle, your 'seatmate' is basically next to you, and convenient access to the facilities, without having to dodge people on both sides.

Well I did 19A HKG-MEL recently, no problems at all.
On the way back im trying the mini cabin with 22A.
Something different.

+ 1 on the avoid Row 11 on a 33B config.

Was comp'd up due to CX overbooking an earlier flight and leaving me in HKG. So not complaining about flying J class on a Y fare paid for by work.
But on an overnight flight got little to no sleep as I constantly being woken by the clattering of galley, even with earplugs on.

Hope you get seats you enjoy, the herringbone config is a little strange at first but if i was able to fly J class for work would def use it.

I've flown this route a couple of times with Cathay on A330s with the lie-flat beds and I've always preferred the 'K' seats over the 'A' or 'D' seats. My impression is that there is less traffic in the aisle on the right hand side of the aircraft as only one line of seats are accessing it, rather than two.

Apart from avoiding the first or last rows due to noise from the galley and toilets I don't have a row preference.

I can see how some people may think the seats are a bit coffin like, but I have found them very comfortable, provide good privacy and the IFE system and tv great.

I totally agree that I find the seats great. Good privacy, great AVOD system with plenty of little space to put away things like shoes, amenity bags etc.
I know a lot of people do not like them but I really enjoy them every time I fly in J with CX.

You can always tell the first timers in this cabin when the attendants remind / ask them to put on the car-like seat belts on properly.

Agree with thers that the 'K' seat is better. But i did notice on a flight last year that the service pattern seemed to run rows only up to row 19K, then the second cart did row 20K, 21K and the rear mini-cabin. As such the service kinda stopped at row 19 (i was in row 20). I had to wait ages for service while the second cart did the rounds of the second cabin.

It may have been particular to the two flights i was on, but if you can, just to be safe, fly something before row 20.

As for the car style seat-belts - they have more quirky ones on the 747 where you have to pull part of the belt over the shoulder. Not comfortable. These were superceded by the airbags on the 777s and 33B and 34B models.

Personally I always before the starboard side of the plane becasue less traffic.

I find the seats OK because likely I sleep on my side. Those who sleep on their back my have difficulty.

I have only found the car seat belts on the UD of the 744 - never on the A330. Strange but true.

I love the CX seats - just dont sit near the back near the screaming children...

The only issue is if you are a fat a$$ - if so you wont be that comfortable. But then again if you are tall and not fat then you will be more comfortable in this than the short sloping skybed with nowhere to store stuff.

CX only operate the A33B configuration to Australia now. So it will be herringbone lie-flat seat.

I was actually thinking of upgrading to first on the return leg - HK to SYD.

Does anyone know 1) if this is possible and 2) how many points I would need to use?

I am platinum status with Qantas.
