Just spotted in my RSS feed this evening. Gallery of the new lounge shows it does look the part.

FIRST LOOK: Cathay’s new lounge at HKIA- The Cabin
Originally published on asia.businesstraveller.com, 30/09/2010

Cathay Pacific will open the doors of a new lounge – The Cabin - at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1 on October 11, 2010. The lounge is a premium lounge for both First and Business Class passengers, Silver and above Marco Polo Club members, and Sapphire and above oneworld members.

The Cabin, located by Gate 23, is on a lower level accessible by stairs and a lift both of which lead immediately to the reception. The design throughout the entire 1300sqm lounge follows Cathay Pacific’s signature style with a combination of marble, wood and granite as well as floor to ceiling windows along the length of the lounge capturing maximum amounts of natural light and views of the runway.

The Solus chair looks huge, but then I see an iPad and it too looks massive, so they must actually be smaller than my eyes lead me to believe? In fact I think the first couple photos in the Flickr set are stretched somewhat…

Interesting break from their usual styles. It seems like this could be more designed for westerners, perhaps they’re seeing a growing trend in them?

The brown Solus chair at the end of the set looks much better than red

Also, although not a public link yet on Cathay’s website, it wasn’t hard to find this:

I'll be there next week and as my outward flight leaves at 0025 it looks like a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

Akk. Just noticed the October 11 date for opening. I'll be there on the return leg home at the end of November. Gotta say though that HKG seems to consistently have the most pleasant lounges of any airport i regularly transit.

Looks like I will need to give myself a few hours at HKG before my trip back in December :)

I have the inside scoop. So probably not.

As my dad is back to being a CX Diamond, and other CX/Asia Miles members can probably confirm this, they’re opening the new lounge because they’ll be closing The Wing for refurbishments. The J lounge is due to close first, so J pax will go to The Cabin, and when renovations are complete the F lounge will close.

My dad says he’s heard talk The Wing will become 2 levels… I thought it was already, but he doesn’t think so, or hasn’t explored as he’s always in the F lounge.

So which HKG OW lounge to go to for a few hours? Was recently pushed by AY staff to a pleasant lounge but not the Wing or Pier which I enjoyed anyway. Basically after shower, decent food, decent reds, internet access and a bit of peace and quiet.

I thought that The Wing looked a bit run down when I was there in May, so good to see they're investing in it :)

My dad recommends Cathay, but it really depends what time you’re flying, as at certain times it’s quieter ;)

No doubt they’ll release some info when it’s underway, and when they open it. I guess you’d be hoping for more cabanas etc… :p

The Wing has always been two levels since it opened for the J lounge, with the long bar on the top and the spa on the bottom along with what used to be a smoking lounge, before that it was a whisky bar (sigh- the memories).

Interesting new lounge.

The Wing is already a two-level lounge. I suppose they mean they will "flesh out" the lower level a bit more (i.e. the level at the gate concourse).

Might've been in the article but I wonder if they will have J/F areas like the Wing and Pier. Also, no mention of showers; presumably there may be none.

No mention of a F area - looks like it's "only" a J lounge.

According to Travelmole it's already open!
Cathay opens up The Cabin-01 October, 2010
Cathay opens up The Cabin
Cathay Pacific has opened The Cabin, the airline’s latest passenger lounge at Hong Kong International Airport.

Designed by London-based architectural firm Foster + Partners, it is located by Gate 23 on the airport’s central concourse.

The Cabin is the latest addition to the collection of Cathay Pacific Group lounges at HKIA, which includes three other departure lounges - The Wing, The Pier, G16 - and The Arrival for passengers flying into Hong Kong.

The new lounge is separated into five zones - The Reception, The IT Zone, The Deli, The Health Bar and The Relaxing Zone.

New dining concepts include a delicatessen, where made-to-order hot sandwiches, fresh antipasti and salads are available, and The Health Bar – a reworking of Cathay Pacific’s popular Long Bar concept which also serves freshly squeezed juices and hot or cold Chinese herbal teas.

Expected to be a big talking point in the new lounge is the innovative new Cathay Solus Chair - a purpose-built unit where lounge guests can eat, work and relax.

The Cabin is a premium lounge open to First and Business Class passengers, Silver and above Marco Polo Club members, and Sapphire and above oneworld members.

Opening hours are from 5:30am until the last departure.

With the opening of The Cabin, Cathay Pacific will begin a phased renovation of its flagship lounge, The Wing, beginning from the fourth quarter of 2010.

looks great. cant wait to check it out in 2 weeks.

IMHO though, the only real big difference between the Wing and Pier is the Cabana rooms..

OK, so im here in "The Cabin".. its nice.. but definately J std.. The IT area at the right end is nice and quit.. The eating areas are at the left hand end when you enter..

One thing I dont like being a Mafia Wars fan (Facebook) is that the net filter using free wifi is blocking it.

Good views out over the tarmac looking towards gate 1 and surrounds..

Glad I came to check it out, but will return to the F Lounge in future..

What’s the food like, I noted before they served different things to the standard fare, so is it any good?

They have. Help urself buffett which had steamed pork buns, rice, pasta and something that didnt look good (egg plant maybe)

Also they have another one where u pick what u want and they make a salad or grilled samdwich. Had smoked salmon too (always nice to see).

A sit down bar where they can make u fresh juice too.

Its not bad. It was quite busy though.

Good to hear that the Wing is getting a refresh soon - the new style in the Cabin looks very modern - I hope this translates well to the F lounge...

Shared F/J lounges <shudders>... the humiliation!

Any word on when the Wing/dedicated F Lounge might reopen after reno's?
