Consensus I’ve found from top-tier members of the MPC that my dad knows is that they hate The Cabin, they’re not a fan of the whole place being available for everyone and they find it very busy… that being said, it shall be taking a lot of people away from the Wing, making that place a bit quieter.

Of course, given the Wing is planned to be closed for renovations, the trek back from the Pier for low gate numbers is gunna be a pain ...

Has it started yet though? I had heard they would do one lounge and then the other, so even the J section of the Wing would be preferable to the Cabin for some members ;)

My last transit through HKG was late December and Cabin was pretty busy so I turned around and went out to The Pier which was close to my gate anyway. Pier was packed with stranded Euros too so no real relief there either. Will have opportunity to check the Cabin on January 30th.

The Wing’s lower level Business Class lounge re-opens

Cathay Pacific’s flagship lounge, The Wing set a new standard in airline ground services when it opened at Hong Kong International Airport in 1998. Over the past 13 years, The Wing has offered passengers unparalleled levels of comfort and service and has received numerous awards. Now Cathay Pacific has reinforced its’ commitment to Hong Kong by investing a complete renovation of The Wing.

Renovation is being carried out in phases to minimise inconvenience to passengers.

The Wing lower level Business Class lounge re-opens
With the first phase of renovations now nearing completion, the lower level (Level 6) of the Business Class lounge will re-open with a new look in April 2011. The Wing was designed by London based architects Foster + Partners and continues with design language first seen in The Cabin. The black marble floor and white reflective ceiling takes the current Pier and outport lounge design to the next level. The white Carrara marble at self served buffet counter provides the perfect backdrop for a new and improved range of high-quality buffet offering four selection of hot Asian and Western dishes along with cold food selections.

The new lounge also offers a wide range of seating including 27 comfortable sofas and 9 Cathay Solus Chairs. All IT facilities have now been moved to the Lower Level where passengers can make use of one of the 26 fully equipped IT workstations with individual printers. Finally, the Lower Level features a total of 24 Business shower suites – where passengers can freshen up before departures.

The Wing balcony level Business Class lounge closure
Cathay Pacific plans to continue the next phase of its Business Class lounge renovation in May 2011 with the closure of the balcony level. This will be followed by the closure of the First Class lounge in the first quarter of 2012. During the next phase of renovations, The Wing’s Business Class lounge will offer limited capacity, with the First Class lounge remaining open to First Class passengers and Diamond members. Business Class passengers and Silver and above members are welcome to join us at our other lounge facilities: The Cabin (by Gate 23), The Pier (by Gate 65), and G16 Lounge (by Gate 16).
