LAN Seat Selection

I've got an upcoming SYD-AKL return status run on LAN and when doing seat selections online it appears as though seats 1A, 1C, 2A, 2C, 6D and 6H don't exist. Expert Flyer shows that these seats are being used for the Qantas codeshare (QF322) and hence why they're holes in the LAN seat map.

My question is what's the deal with selecting the seats that are on the codeshare? I called QF, who advised me to call LAN, who advised me to call QF.

Is my only option to wait until the 2 flights are combined into the same inventory at check-in?

You go through the marketing airline. So, if you have an LA flight number then you should use them.

QF Status might affect your ability to select certain rows/seats.

Which website are you trying to do seat selection - QF or LAN? Have you tried both sites?

IMO row 1/2 are the best on that plane, although 1a feels like it has less legroom due to curving of the plane ( it doesn't)

I'm booked through LAN but can select seats on both LAN and Qantas' websites.

The problem isn't that the seats are blocked - it's that they don't exist on the LAN flight number:


Similarly, the Qantas flight number appears to have the inverse - only 6 seats exist and all the others are missing.

Those 6 are exclusively for QF and you won't get them. 2D is next best in my books

This separation of seating is a well known feature of LAN/QF transatlantic. It happens on other routes with codeshares as well.

Since you are booked on LAN, you can only select from "their" seats. Note that you may be able to access the 6 "QF" seats on check-in (if there are any left).

Serfty has it covered. IME I've often found them pop-up a few days before the flight so put a seat alert on FT and just be patient. They're all great seats though I found the first row nice and private. On the AKL-SYD leg I'd recommend a window if you plan to sleep. 1A is nice and a bit away from everyone. My main suggestion would be look at the seat map and go for an empty adjacent seat.

To be honest, the flight time SYD-AKL and return is so short, the seat position hardly matters. Just enjoy the SCs, reasonable service, meal and nice seat! You'll need it after the OMG departure time out of AKL.
