A few years ago I took up an offer that was mentioned on the website for a citibank gold credit card which came with no annual fee ever.

At a later date, everyone was offered the option to keep the gold card or upgrade to the platinum card (there were some associated changes with the rewards program). I elected to keep the gold card, and from memory there was a discussion here about the pros and cons of changing.

Citibank have now offered the platinum card again. I curious to hear from anyone who elected to go with the platinum card last time. Has there been any issues? Is the card accepted in all the same places? Are there no additional surcharges?

thanks

Not everyone was offered. And indeed as well, some who were not offered and whom asked to get it were knocked back (not i, but was reported at the time.

From memory, from those that were offered the upgrade, the offer was not precise as to whether it would remain free for life or not. It has for those that upgraded.

I have just received the new offer and it state that that fees will the same as you current have. I will upgrade, but wil make sure I keep the letter.

Interestingly enough my wife whose card is a supp off mine received exactly the same letter!!! So not sure how that works!!!

I took the plunge and upgraded last time, and still no annual fees charged. However, the plat card produce will cease to exist shortly, so we'll have to see what happens.

I the plat card produce will cease to exist shortly, .

What makes you say this? ie that Plat is ceasing.

If they are just offering free upgrades to Plat now, in addition toa separate campaign where people are being offered 60K of points to sign up, surely the card will be around for a while?

Sorry, but just to clarify, is it the silverish-looking Citibank Platinum card or is it the new Citibank Rewards Platinum card with the top half of the card in blue?

Citi sent me a letter saying that the former will be replaced by the later.

It is the new plat..but that is the one you want as it earns at a high rate, and has a higher points cap.

The old one earnt at the same rate at the Gold. The cap was higher, but that was not a factor for me as I mainly spend on Amex.

It's a compulsory switch... no choice. I'll have to see if it's still no-annual-fees.
