Hi all,
Have someone in Belgium for a week.(working\junket)
Suggestions of what they should see and do?
They are in the capital city I think.
Other than chocolate what would you buy?

Go to Bruges, my favourite city in Europe after Prague, climb the tower on the main square, take a boat ride on the canals, go to Antwerp, visit onze lieve vrouw church (church of our lady) there, visit the WWI battelfields, buy antiques in Ghent, 45 mins form Brussels

They should indulge in a couple of pub crawls and then take the fast train up to AMS.

Get some Godiva chocolates as well, if that's your thing.

In Bruges there are a lot of shops selling hand crafted chocolates which are better then Godiva. My personal favorite is Sucerbuyc but there is many many more.

My hometown is Gent and definitely go there, visit the Gravensteen.

Pub crawl in Leuven, apparently the Oude Markt is the worlds longest bar...

Not a huge fan of Amsterdam but that is probably because of the Belgians disliking the Dutch a bit... :D

+1 also. Bruges is a beautiful place, and you won't have time, but you can spend days just walking around the place.

Edit. If in Brussels, it is just over an hour to drive to Bruges and then Antwerp is also a short distance away.

forgot to respond to this. Bruges is known for lace. And if they are into it some Oude Graan Jenever... If they go to Gent they can visit the Dreupelkot, over 100 different Jenevers with some very interesting tastes.
Also I would advise against driving as the traffic jams during the week are horrible. I remember it taking 2 hours to drive the 26k from Brussels to Leuven (and that was 4 years ago).

When is travel?

Definitely visit Ghent - loved this town! If I recall, it was only about an hour on the train from Brussels ..........

Just wander around the old town, stroll beside the canal, browse the antiques, and lunch outside if the weather is good - a relaxing day! (oops forgot : some nice chocolate shops too!)

As others have already said, go to Gent. Definitely worth spending some time there. It's a beautiful city and there is great food and great beer! :)
cheers
Bert
