If SQ is changing the type of plane used, will they let us know in advance?

We have booked flights for the family to Bali via Singapore on SQ in September 2012. Some of the attractions of the "long way round" include spending a few days in Singapore on the way home (and skipping the red eye out of Denpasar YUK!) as well as the kids flying on the A380 for the first time.

So being the diligent (but under resourced) air travel boffin that I am, I diarised to book the flights on the SIA website the first day they were available. I was really keen to book economy upstairs on the A380 to give my kids a bit of a kick. So this all went successfully. However reading on here it appears that SIA is pulling the A380 out of Melbourne, and this information was known before I booked online. I appreciate that it a white whine to say that we would be disappointed to be flying a B777 rather than a A380, and I do understand that equipment can change.

My question is, will they notify us when they update their system so that we can reselect seats? Or could we just be left with whatever available seats are left over? TIA.

Purely based on my experience over the last 3 years of having book quite a number of J return redemption's to Europe and Asia, ofter booked at the max time out.....no.

If there is time change, then they always email and call (at least for J tickets anyway).

As my redemptions are in J, I can alter online at any time. With yours being in Y I am not sure that you have that option.

But if is purely equipment then no. So I have learnt that if I hear of any equipment changes that I go in and review my seating.

From my bookings I have discovered that:
  • If there are seats of the same seat number in the new plane that you keep the same seat. Though of course with different floorplans that may lead to poor seats.
  • If there are not then you end up with no allocated seat!!! Though yes you still have a seat.
  • If some of your party have matching seat numbers, and some do not, then only those with matching seat numbers are swapped.
So apart from waiting on reports of changes, I also go into my booking every so often to check.

I had one booking to Europe where they swapped the plane type several different times and each time my seating was changed or lost.
