Thought I might see what others think about my options here. Might help with a decision. We have some flights that will get my wife and daughter on Silver and I am not sure whether this is the best way to go or Whether I should pool with the chance of getting Platinum. Pooling will get me close just depends on what trips come up by January. If I could use families existing credits I would be there.

The things influencing me are:
No guarantees I will make Platinum even with pooling but the contribution would help
There is an opportunity for Silver for family at 200 SC's each up until 31 Dec
Family both have 60SC's expiring that can't be transferred to me and will expire Jan and be lost, maybe better used for themselves.
Bonus points earn on 2 x Silver and a Gold significantly better than one Platinum ?
We only travel together half a dozen times a year normally.

You raise a good point with the bonus points.

For me, I'm going to FP the families Scs and points to me , which will certainly retain my gold but probably won't get me to plat with my business flying falling in a heap. When the family fly, I fly, so with DJs policy on sundry benefits applying to those travelling with a status holder and lounge entries, it works for us to have just me as gold. This may be entirely different if the family flew without me in tow, but then apart from the bonus points you mention, there's not a lot of value in silver for an infrequent traveller (priority check-in and luggage would be about it as the discounted lounge membership would probably not be worth it for a couple of times a year usage).

The other thing to think about, is if DJ do actually implement life time status, it may really be worth it to transfer those SCs to just one holder. We've no idea if DJ are even considering this, or if they do, they'll allow FP SCs to count toward LT status, but my money is on LT status being brought in eventually, as it's the only thing that remains that ties QF flyers to QF.

Good points about the limited value of Silver given we travel together. I still wonder about the points earning differential with 3 mixed status members rather than 1 Platinum.

Have done my sums and will miss Platinum by 15 points. I can't even squeeze in a flight in the days before 150 odd SC's expire and then another 150 shortly thereafter. Shame the upcoming flights are not eligible for double points. Booked too easrly.

It kills me that my family have 120 SC's sitting there that I can't access and will expire in 2 months. I wish we could do a one time SC's transfer as part of kicking of the Pooling arrangement.

If I pool with my wife on all bookings through to the end of January, I will just touch 1,000 SCs. Otherwise, I"ll end up on 751 and she'll be at 249!

She's requested I let her attain Silver in her own right but I'm going to counter offer that (a) she's extremely unlikely to travel alone and (b) silver does nothing beyond priority checkin (available on a Flexi) and a free bag (rarely used, but also available on a Flexi). If she does fly alone, I'll spring for a lounge pass :-).

I see more advantages in her travelling as the companion of a Platinum (esp. when we go to Europe next year on either NZ or EY) than us travelling as Gold+Silver.

I don't like the idea of giving away lounge passes due to the obvious impact on the lounges but I would like to see lounge pass sharing amoungst pooled members in the same household. I think this scenario is a perfect example of if we are taking our spouses SC's we should be able to contribute something back.

Completely agree with you here, I'd love the ability to share lounge passes through my family.
