Late last month/early this month we flew PER-AKL-DUD and return with Air NZ. Last week I found out that Velocity Reward points and status credits can be earned on Air NZ flights. Can these points and status credits be claimed retrospectively? I emailed Virgin Australia last week but haven't had a reply. I'm really hoping I can claim the points and status credits as we flew PER-AKL and return in business class, and AKL-DUD return in space plus. Only thing is I can't find the boarding passes for the AKL-DUD leg. I have the boarding passes for PER-AKL, DUD-AKL and AKL-PER.

Yes, you can claim for these points as per the following

Claim missing Points for flights on Virgin Australia, Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue, V Australia or our other Airline Partners.

  • Airline partner claims must be requested within 6 months of travel provided you were a member at the time of travel
  • Airline partner claims can be processed 30 days prior to the date of joining Velocity
  • Successful claims for the Virgin Australia Group will be credited to your account within 7 days of submission. Successful Partner Airlines claims can take between 4 to 12 weeks to appear on your account

OK I've gone into "Claim missing points". Air NZ isn't there. There's only Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Air PNG, SkyWest, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic and Etihad Airways.

According to this: Air New Zealand | Virgin Australia Velocity members can earn & redeem points on a range of fares on either airline, as well as status recognition and lounge access for eligible customers.

Ring the service centre, I am sure they can patch any shortcomings in the IT systems!

So what exactly is the difference between the first two points/conditions? My parents flew on Etihad last week, but were not members of Velocity at the time, I.e. I signed them up today. According to the first point, they cannot make a claim as they were not members at the time of travel. What exactly does the second point mean? Etihad is a partner airline, and the flew within the 30 day period prior to joining Velocity, so in this case are they eligible?

They way I read it is that your parents are eligible to earn points despite them not being members of Velocity at the time of travel. If they sign up & put a claim in they will receive points/credits for the EY flights they did as the travel was within the last 30 days.

You can only claim missing points outside 30 days, but not more than 6 months after travel if you were already enrolled in Velecity ie you can't have flown on EY 5 months ago, sign up now & get points.

Just an update. I was advised by the person at the call centre that I needed to email either the boarding passes or the e-tickets and it may take up to 12 weeks for the points to be awarded. I emailed the e-tickets because I couldn't be bothered scanning the boarding passes. A few weeks later I got an email saying that I needed to also send the boarding passes, so I did that. I did tell them I don't have the AKL-DUD boarding passes, I think I left them in the seat pocket on the plane, never thinking I'd need them. The points were awarded but for some reason I got more points than my husband, even though we were both Velocity Red. The only reason I can think of that this would happen is that I was perhaps closer to Silver than him, and some of the Air NZ points put me up to Silver and then I got more points because I was a Silver member. I got an email from Velocity last week telling me that I am now Silver, but on looking at my account I'm actually Gold! That won't last though as I don't fly enough to retain it.

Edit: Just had a look at hubby's Velocity Rewards account, and he hasn't been awarded any points or credits for DUD-AKL-PER. I've asked them to explain what has happened.
