Jacking up rates seems like standard practice at this time of year.

I'm just wondering - is it worth waiting until the very last minute before booking in order to get a better deal?

For this year it's pretty much "very last minute" already! I would imagine the only time you see price drops is when the weather is looking bad.
 
Bummer. So rates will not come back down to earth, the day before or on the day itself? Hotels will be completely unyielding?
