Hey folks,

Just a quick but I think important question for my proposed trip to Cuba in around six months time.

I am in the process of using my QF points for a oneworld award and have currently found flights available SYD-SCL-MEX-ORD-LHR-xHKG-BKK-SYD.

Now, I would like to fly on separate tickets MEX-HAV-MEX.

So hypothetically, say I land into MEX on the 1st, fly to HAV on the 2nd. Return to MEX on the 8th and then departing MEX for ORD on the 9th.

I assume that my passport will be stamped multiple times upon entry and departure of MEX. Sooooo the important question is, when I land into ORD and arrive at US Customs/Immigration ...... would the US folks make my life difficult when I try to enter the states? any tips and reassurances most welcome.

Thanks,

Alan

I doubt they'll bother asking too much, we did hav-cun (overnight) cun-dfw-scl and they just asked where we flew in from (answer:Mexico!).

Cuba stamp a little card that gets removed when you leave so there is no document of your cubs entry (can't remember about mex).

Unless you're a us citizen, or you have contraband (cigars etc) I wouldn't worry as they don't really care.

So long as you're not a US citizen or permanent resident, you're not breaking US law by going to Cuba - the only thing you would need to make sure of is that you do not have anything of Cuban origin on you or in your luggage. Ship any souvenirs etc. back home from Mexico.

When I did this trip a few years ago I re-entered the US at MIA - I dutifully entered Cuba as one of the countries I'd visited on the trip prior to arriving in the US and was asked a few quick questions about whether I'd brought anything back and even whether I'd had a good time.. you shouldn't have a problem.

Btw, if you want a Cuban stamp in your passport you have to specifically ask for one.

no problem whatsoever

if you're not a US citizen you can go to Cuba as many times as you want (and even if you are a US citizen but are of Cuban origin and have relatives in Cuba, you are allowed to visit Cuba)

there's no stamp in your passport, just a little card stapled into it, you remove it after you leave

Been to Cuba twice and once to the US after the most recent visit to Cuba, never any problems

and half of Canada goes to Cuba on vacation anyway and this does not stop them going to US afterwards

Many thanks for everyone's replies.

Looks like I'll proceed with my booking then :)

A couple of points.

A few years ago I flew into and out of MEX,they this not stamp my AU passport.
A few weeks ago I was on a SFO to MIA flight and as we were about to land the FA on the intercom
wished a college group good luck on their trip to Cuba. There quite a few daily flights from MIA to HAV.
If you are a teacher or work in the media you might be able to get on one of those flights. Most of the
MIA to HAV traffic will be Cuban-Americans visiting family.Tourists have zilch chance getting on a MIA to HAV flight.

Not sure what they do now, they (Cuba) once stapled a separate page into the passport and stamped that which you could remove later.

When I went in 2009, I had to ask for a stamp - the customs officer asked me if I was sure .. I said yes, so I've now got a bright pink "Republica de Cuba" stamp in my passport.
