Thai ‘Baht’ is the official currency of Bangkok. But if you reach there with currency of your own country, there are many options to get it exchanged. And one of the best things is that, Bangkok offers better exchange rate than any other place in Thailand. However, make sure you exchange money through Bank or similar foreign exchange facility. Some hotels also provide the same facility but at more charges. Many tourists exchange the currency at Bangkok international Airport as well, that is a good option.

I hope Travelex don't operate there!

Agree with you 100%. Travelex is just a rip off.

I tend to exchange money overseas as my experience is that selling forex is always better than buying forex. In Bangkok the Thai banks tend to offer you very good rates.

Depending on time of arrival day/evening, wether you've arrange transfer and paid prior.

My suggestion is BKK airport to exchange enough for transfer and incidentals - the rate at each facility is exactly the same (did walk around in Dec 2011) and was better rate than Hotels.

Generally stay away from Hotels unless exchange facilities are out of the way, then it's not worth going out of your way - probaly pay more to get a slightly cheaper rate.
