Hi All,

Fairly new to these forums but I need some advice.

Current situation:
Me - 522sc (Gold) renewal date Jan '13 but a few SC expiring in April this year
Wife - 440sc (Silver) renewal date Jan '13

We mostly fly together or me alone, not really her alone.

So basically I need 400sc to renew Gold or 478 to hit Platinum.

I was thinking a night in Mackay flying J both ways with my wife's sc pooling into mine, that would give me 480sc for $2000.

But I just need some convincing that Platinum is worth it. The main benefits I see for me are:

-Hilton /Europcar status
- 4 free J upgrades
- Lounge access for 4pax
- 12 months of plat, plus a bonus 12 months of Gold after the platinum expires (probably wont hit 800sc to renew plat)

Anyone have opinions one way or another?

If you are travelling together then it makes sense to a point, while $2000 is a lot, the double points benefit is also a big win, 8000 points + 75% bonus as gold is a nice haul of points. At the end of the day only you can work out the ROI though.

I'm currently in a similar boat, but with less SC required.

I've also 'sold' it to myself by taking into account the $300 lounge membership I would otherwise be buying. That brings it down to $700 for me. Largely recoverable with the Europcar status, extra Lounge guests and free upgrades I've decided.

Don't forget the 69kg baggage allowance. If you usually fly Y, that saving can start adding up - particularly of you fly with a few people.
