Air Australia executive had no aviation sector experience | Adelaide Now
Owner Michael James and Mr Vasta have not returned phone calls or made contact with staff or passengers since the airline's sudden demise.
That really is poor form, the circumstances of the airline's failure may take a long time to be worked through but the management have a duty to at least make some sort of statement.
Maybe they have received legal advice telling them not to say anything but the staff and passengers deserve at least something from the bosses of the airline which
has stranded passengers and put people out of employment.(At least that is my opinion)
Cheers

I think you will find it would be pointless for them to have contact, its the receivers job, and I would expect they are working with the receiver!

Point taken, but working with the receivers and at least making some sort of media statement need not be mutually exclusive surely?

I dont think they are allowed to, their positions as office holders is on hold which means they no longer represent the company, and no doubt their lawyers have probably advised them to be quiet regardless.

Thanks oz_mark, I checked a few minutes ago (after I posted, and seeing jaseblenner's outcome) and unfortunately it was paid in cash (grrr!). Her TA has indicated she may be able to get some or all of the accommodation costs back so there is a small silver lining I guess (and some lessons to be learned).

I bet the ta paid via card...

As discussed Mal, after your post she rang the TA who said that she did not pay by CC, and no go on a refund of the airfare portion of the trip. However she got a call back from the TA yesterday to say she will get every cent refunded (apart, I think, from AUD60 used to pre-select seats). The story is a little garbled but mum seems to the think the TA, whilst not called Flight Centre, is part of the FC chain. I don't know how right that sounds, but in any case it appears a card may have been used somewhere along the line. Whatever the reason, provided the money actually does come through, it's a good outcome for Mum in the end.

Unfortunately many will still be out of pocket. And thanks for the tip!

Update on my previous post : my in-laws tell me that Flight Centre will reimburse them for the flights and even accommodation (they were due to go to Hawaii next month). Well done, Flight Centre.

Personally I don't know why people bother with travel agents anymore.

Flight centre yesterday announced a 1 million dollar cost associated with air Australia. As i commented in the offtopic thread, i am wondering if that is an ex gratia payment or loss of commission only.

Me too. If you knew how to fix your own car, would you pay an mechanic to do it for you?

Doesn’t it always come back to insurance and liability then… sure, you could do it yourself, but when it hits the fan, everyone wants someone to blame, and usually not themselves!

So much simpler without a travel agent. Cut out the middle man. Okay, you may lose out but the situation is very simple. Note to self: pay for dodgy budget airlines with credit cards, even if it costs a bit more. Well, only for expensive flights.

Of course, there's also the risk that the travel agent goes bust! What I especially dislike is all these conditions and cancellation fees they put on accommodation. If you book a hotel directly you can usually cancel up to 6pm of the day in question with ZERO penalty. But I digress.

Don't travel agents have to belong to the travel compensation fund, whereby funds are held similar to an escrow? I know in nsw it's $50,000 or so security bond contribution to the fund to become a licenced travel agent, I know this is if the TA folds and buggers off with the cash, but you would think it would be similar the other way around, if the TA sold the ticket, then it's their blood that would be seeked ( is that a word????)

Maybe something JuLIAR. And her cronies should look at, every other business is regulated to within an inch of its life

True, captain Bligh should look at it before she is made to walk the plank

I didn't know Bligh had control over NT affairs

Does she have control over QLD affairs?
Nope, and anat0l was referenced to SamH comment re state level decisions, and as I live in QLD that is why she was referred to. Sorry Im not a university edukated man, therefor my comments are usually simple and un thought out. I shall refrain from commenting again in this thread
