I've just booked QF 008 from DFW - SYD in Y+ on August 14.

There is no option to select J seating, so I assume this is the new 3 class configuration. I cant find that config on seat guru, and I'm hoping someone can help me choose a good seat.

Y+ cabin looks like this: (G=Galley, T= Toilet)

I've been pre-allocated 35B. Seat 35 A next to me is showing as unavailable, which I hope is WP shadow as only 3 other seats in the cabin are selected at this point.

34 A & B both showing unavailable, I assume due to bassinet.

In the D- G and J/K rows, row 35 is "blank" and row 34 has the galley symbol. .

I'm tempted to switch to seat 36J, as it looks like it is a bulkhead and I prefer not to have anyone recline into me.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Alas no, 35A is occupied by someone else.

Both 34A/B and 36J/K are bulkheads. Personally I'd prefer 36J/K as it's away from the toilets so there's likely to be less noise and traffic.

How odd - they must really like that seat.

I have changed seat to 36J.

Thanks

Recently on this flight, sat at 36G. Any of these bulk seats are great, you have enough leg room and no one in front of you reclining.

I recently flew LAX BBN on this configuration plane. You do not want to be in row 34 or 35 as the toilets are right in front of these seats and that is where people stand and wait. There is actaully an alley betwwen the ailes right next to row 35. Wife and I were in 37J/K but 36J/K would have been better. You will still get traffic using the alley going to the toilets but not too much of a problem as the toilet is only for Y+.

Windows on long haul are not a real necessity; if privileged I'd go for 3E or 3F any time.

I pray these days I don't have to travel in a 744 in WHY, but for me at 6' 43C/H or 43D/G(hope for no bubs) would be the go. 46D/G look interesting but I suspect they are $180 exit seats.

I think 60H would be an epic fail, I would doubt even white socks would rescue you in that seat!

yes..ALL of row 46 (A to K) is pay for exit row seating as there is no 'seperate' walk thru area from the left toilet to the right toilet. note on the seatmap on QANTAS.com these seats have a red band on them denoting them as exit seating.

have a flight in a couple of days and can see a seat in 43, but substantial number of open seats further back. Would the best play here to be lock in the seat in row 43, and then ask at check in whether there's a chance of a whole row free?

Wouldn't 60H have additional leg room? There seems to be some uncertainty on whether this is a good or bad seat, any feedback appreciated as I am scheduled to fly in May and have the choice between 60H or paying for an exit row.

60H is next to the galley that serves the whole of Y, it is probably the busiest part of the aircraft, you will get a lot of traffic there.
The main issue is in the curtain, people don't know you are on the other side and as they come through the curtain, hey presto its you, right there!
60K is an OK seat.

SeatGuru says that row 60 has restricted leg room, so YMMV.
