What a laugh! You know it will be a balanced and objective review when you read "Lance Richardson travelled courtesy of China Southern." at the closing of the review. Sigh.

Flight test: China Southern premium economy

Comfort This is an airline stripped to the essentials but space is ample in premium economy, with generous legroom. Recline is limited, though seats are on the right side of firm and passengers are encouraged to relocate to empty rows and stretch out.

READ: It was a really sh!tty flight, but as they are an advertiser with us, I cannot tell you how bad or I will lose my job.

Entertainment There is a blend of Hollywood and European cinema, as well as contemporary Chinese films. Unfortunately, on this particular aircraft, personal television systems are available only in higher classes. For everybody else, shared screens play a subtitled pre-selection. (There are seat-back screens in all classes on some aircraft operating into Australia.)

READ: They only showed 70's chinese classics on the aged overhead monitors, the awful subtitles were impossible to decipher.

Service The Chinese take service seriously

READ: It was simply awful

Food and beverages Coffee aficionados beware: it comes ultra-sweet with creamer added. Lunch is basic, though the "chicken with spice" dish avoids the stolid heaviness of much airline food, with big pieces of chicken, white rice and vegetables.

READ: Coffee was utter cough, the chicken thigh was fatty and rubbery with bits of bone. The food was tragic.

LMFAO

Werry good Mr Wayden. Please smack profiting gloss before financial flavour of fountain pen! Enjoy yes!

I read the article to my wife on Sunday night and although she doesn't go for all the bells and whistles normally she said "make sure we don't fly with that mob":p

I’d have expected the service to be good, as with most Asian airlines, but certainly wouldn’t be onboard for the IFE/seats/meals.

errr... nope... when it comes to service, Chinese carriers are a bit like Jetstar is to the Qantas Group... part of Asia but not really :)

Don't get me started on China Southern The worst airline I have ever travelled on in every way. Started right from booking, culminating with trying to get some satisfaction in regard to the endless issues from management afterwards. Completely, ignored! This airline has no idea what customer service is. They likewise have no idea how to operate an airline past taking your money. From filthy stinking aircraft with no space, to rude staff who care little about the customers they are supposed to be serving.
