So I have to attend an annual trade show in Shanghai Apr 26, 27 and 28 - I have SQ J Savers booked for like 10 months to facilitate this.

Unfortunately 2 containers of product I was supposed to inspect prior to shipping were not ready last visit Mar 22-29 - but will be ready to inspect Apr 21, 23 and 24 - BUT now I cannot amend J Savers out of MEL as no availasbility so looks like I need to purchase flts - jeez I hate paying for flts when have bucket load of pts.

I actually have to be in Nanjing morn Apr 21 - so quick check on BF shows plenty ret flts under $4K - check this for instance.

Now that tweaked my interest - MU8444 and MU8443 are indeed codeshare QF flts on 380 - interesting - never ridden QF 380 think I wanna try to compare to SQ - and price aint overboard and I get to arrive direct into NKG rather than overnight in Shanghai then CRH train to NKG morn 21 - again look at price for total 4 sectors $3,733

Just out of interest thought I would check price QF MEL-SIN-MEL for same dates - check this:

WTF - $7,868 - QF get f*ing real.

Now all you guys who repeatedly say QF only for me - I would never ride this carrier / won't catch me dead on that carrier - me tinks 10 years down the track you all gonna need attitude change cause QF aint gonna be around if this type of pricing continues.

yeah it's ridiculous... i had something similar QF flight MEL > SIN > CDG was $2800 return (economy) but then I went onto Air France website and using the same metal = $1699...... absolutely bull****.

I don't understand flight costing at all.

I was looking at some flights to go from LHR to NYC at Xmas time.

To go as a 1 way ticket about 800 Pounds versing app 500 pounds return. WTF

That was with BMI

The solution is easy - purchase elsewhere.

Each to their own, if people want to pay x amount for a fare, than good luck to them.

Further to the post - the two screen shots aren't that comparable, considering that destination is different. Yes you travel further for cheaper, but distance traveled is not always the best indicator for how much an airfare should cost.

The Travel Agents have issues too. I was able to book Mumbai SG Adel for 2 people for $1200 but had to use the Qantas India site. So everything was in Rupees and it took some goes getting the credit card to work. Our TA using the same flights, couldn't get it under $1900!

I think air fares are very dependent on when and where you book them.
Yes the example you have shown above is exorbitant but there are cheaper J fares available on QF.
As an example I recently flew to LHR with QF. Fare paid was little over $1000 more than your quoted SIN fare.

I will always fly QF because I have way too much money and can't spend it fast enough. Poor people please fly something else.

Well, looks like your cheap $4000 J airfare on MU ain't happening either.

Better look at other options then! I found a nice fare at $5059 for SQ J, but the closest I can get is to PVG, not NKG.

OK so lets align as closely as QF web site will allow - I cannot select NKG on QF web site so lets go with PVG on same dates:

Yeah that looks pretty competitive huh?

... all you guys who repeatedly say QF only for me - I would never ride this carrier / won't catch me dead on that carrier - me tinks 10 years down the track you all gonna need attitude change cause QF aint gonna be around if this type of pricing continues.....

Dont get mad with QF, just book elsewhere if the competition is so good.

Its maddeningly frustrating that a codeshare with the same metal/crew/route can be half price ... I've done a dummy booking just yesterday where this was the case. Used BA instead of QF, still flying on QF metal but the price was close to 50%.

Obviously QF isn't selling codeshare buckets at a loss ... so what could possibly be the justification for the double price going straight to the source?

People obviously want to travel QF ... they are high profile in this country and continually make noise about QFi (at least) going broke ... so some of us do try to use them, but it makes you want to scream when they obviously have no interest in being competitive and indeed, on the surface at least, appear to be doing everything possible to be non-competitive.

I agree that QF is unlikely to sell the majority of codeshares at a loss. But QF are selling them to the other carriers, not to the pax. Maybe those other carriers are making a loss? Not saying they do, but does anyone here actually know how third-party sales work?

Just because it is same product/metal/etc should not guarantee the same price. I know damn well a bottle of exactly the same Jack Daniels costs me three times as much in Aus as in the USA. That may be taking a badly simplistic view, but I just want to highlight that there are many market forces at work here.

OP, I am not surprised. It would be interesting to find out how heavily loaded the flights are?

I have seen this many a time with QF/BA code-shares. Huge price difference.
Someone recently put an example on FT of using the QF code-share (to earn points/sc's), Etihad metal. Price difference was substantial.

Lets not forget;
some people who fly J/F, employers pick up the tab and don't blink at the cost
some companies get discounts when using QF as they spend so much on QF/QF Group

To their credit though, QF have been giving me much better prices on MEL-HKG and even HKG-PEK on CX/KA metal than booking through CX - savings of over $1000.

Maybe, but I suspect most companies who have people whizzing around in F probably are fairly competent, and manage costs in all areas.

Careful Iso, dont rock the boat!

Sure. Thankfully though, these days of geographical protectionism must be fast fading with the rise and rise of internet trade. Governments and retailers (and all in between) must be slowly realising that with a few keystrokes thoughtful folks are completely cutting them out of the business. Far from making excessive profits, they are on the road to making no profit whatever.

Of course. But if a ticket costs $6k - $7k on QF and $5.5k on a competitor, I don't think it would swing them to the competitor.

Not disagreeing with you, but another way to express it, is perhaps, without the notion ¨excessive profits¨, and to say that many companies these days cannot make a company-sustaining and honest profit magin because they are undercut by fly-by-night internet competition.
