Been trying to figure out what my checked baggage allowance will be on a couple of upcoming domestic flights on AA and UA - can anyone confirm that the below is correct? I'm QF WP and *A Gold.

First up is my AA segments: I fly MEL-xSYD-LAX on QF J and then connect onto AA Y a few hours later, on different PNRs. Similar on the way home - AA Y fare connecting a few hours later onto DFW-xBNE-MEL on QF J, again on different PNRs.

An AA CSR told me that my OWE status makes no difference to baggage allowances and hence normally I'd get no free checked baggage allownance, but because my AA flights are both within 24 hours of an international OW flight I get 2 x 23kg checked bags for free. I'm a little sceptical - does that sound correct?

Secondly, my UA flight: this is a just regular old UA domestic Y flight LAS-ORD. Pretty sure *A Gold gives me 3 x 23kg checked bags for free - can someone please confirm though?

Thanks.

As far as the AA flights go there is no difference to baggage limits, however both your OW Status and the fact you are traveling with 24 hrs of another OW flight, exempts you from baggage fees.

So OWE do get free checked baggage on AA Y? That's completely different to what the AA CSR told me.

Can you confirm whether the amount I listed is correct - 2 x 23kg for free?

Thanks for the assistance too.

It is 2 bags @ 23kg each

Thanks for that Blackadder - not sure how I missed that.

As a WP was recently able to take my checked bag for nix on an AA SFO-LAX flight which was days away from any international connection. My mum, NB, on the same PNR was also able to take a checked bag for free. Each bag was well under 23kg, so unable to confirm from experience allowable number and weight, but there is no reason to doubt the info from the website provided by previous posters. No idea re UA.

Yep same PNR as someone with OW status also exempts them from checked baggage fees.

And yes, you will be fine with up to 3 bags on UA as a *Gold... I think it may even be 3x 32 kg...

(Not sure cos mine are always 23 or less)

Thanks for answering that last outstanding question trooper, appreciate it. Doesn't bother me either whether it's 23kg or 32kg - I definitely wouldn't be going over 23kg/bag. Normally the whole question would be moot for me - I try to travel as light as possible and normally end up with a heavy carry-on bag (camera + lenses + laptop) plus 10-15kg of checked luggage - but I suspect I may end up buying quite a lot of clothes on this trip :-)

With you on that... I can't imagine trying to shift several 32kg bags around... Maybe I just don't shop enough!!!
