CSM's measured on On Time Performance

I accept that increased baggage charges and increased short travel durations have skewed the amount of carry-on baggage vs stuff below. Bean counters have been partly responsible for the first part, but why should the FA's be punished for this? Depends which airline of course but I have seen DJ and JQ use ground agents to board aircraft. It is essentially an efficiency exercise turning an aircraft around and both ground crew and air-crew should have the same targets, not conflicting ones.

I still think its a case of short term pain for long term gain. Again - exactly like priority boarding.

If you have a policy and don't enforce it then that is a dangerous message - people think:
"Hey, if they aren't enforcing carry-on limits I wonder if I can get away with...."Th

The right way to do it is re-announce and communicate the change to the customers and then consistently enforce, enforce and enforce until your policy is working. Once it is - it won't require so much enforcement.....

I have been on plenty of QF 737 flights where all pax are through the gatde reader yet it can be at least another 5-10 minutes before everyone is onboard & seated.

On one flight the F/As were walking down the aerobridge behind me & remarking to each other that they hadnt had any pax on that flight with any carry on that could be considered oversized.

If pax put their smaller item under the seat in front (except pax in aisle seats which have no room) & only the larger item in the overhead locker this will help matters.

Another timewaster is waiting for all exit row pax to board so the F/As can do the overwing briefing. I've lost track of the amount of times an exit row pax will be one of the last to board.

Some good points there - would also add that QF dont use rear doors to their single aisle aircraft unlike DJ and JQ whom sometimes do. I realise rear and front boarding dosen't work at every airport but it does at some, so thats QF managements self-inflicted problem there.

Thanks for the info - looks like crew are aware of the problem and seem to police/enforce it, but not sure about all the time.

Agree and agree - with you there.

Although the issues with rear boarding can be fixed with proper enforcement of boarding by rows
(albeit priority boarding stuffs this up a bit)

Except why should pax with one smaller item be forced to (be uncomfortable and) have it under their feet so that pax with one larger item can put theirs in the overhead? Why cant the "small item" pax put theirs in the overhead?

Single-item pax should be able to use the overhead locker. Dual-item pax should have one at their feet. Exit row and bulkhead pax perhaps need to be limited to one item.

This afternoon I am in an exit row and certainly expect I should be able to stow my single-item backpack in the locker without needing to "steal" the space from rows in front o behind my seat. But I will be using my priority boarding privilege to ensure I have the space above m seat.

If you only have one smaller item you should still be entitled to use the overhead locker. What I meant was when people have 2 items of carry on to put the smaller one under the seat in front.

Would be interested to hear if any of your fellow exit row pax are last to board.

If you have the legal 2 x 105cm rollaboards on QF Domestic Jet services - neither are going to fit under the seat in front.

Its all in the timing ;). Merging this concept with he other thread about ow many beers is too many beers, it's clear that following an extended QP visit it's best to:
1. Pre-select an aisle seat for easy lav access as may be required
2. Pre-emp boarding time to ensure bladder empty opportunity before lounge exit
3. Exit lounge just prior to boarding call announcement
4. Hi-tail it to he gate and get into priority boarding lane early

It's all in the timing ;)

Whether my fellow exit-row pax are last to board or not is not my issue! My "challenge" is to get my timing right, especially the pre-boarding bladder relief step ;)

Happens to me regularly but I choose to board last.

The other day I was the last to board and a guy in front of me stuffed 2 reasonable sized bags into the overhead above row 4, which is where I was sitting, and then walked down to row 7-8. I had my laptop bag with me and luckily found some room in the overhead above row 3 otherwise one of his would have needed to find a new home.

I recently flew a number of sectors on Garuda in J , and at every check in - carryon was checked and a tag put on the bags

I did not notice any issues

But I do agree it is up to the airlines being stingy with checked bags - and so people are trying to fly without checked luggage and carry every thing on board

its crazy
