thanks in advance for the great input. Good help may result in a trip report. HK included with club floor

I've been to Singapore a few times and like to stay closer to the heart of the city but I guess that's a bit out of your budget. But you can try the WOTIF site and check their mystery hotels, they call them 'WOT Hotels', some of those are amazingly cheap. The trick is that you can 'crack the code' to work out which hotels these 'mystery hotels' really are. Some of the travel forums often list the WOTIF descriptions and tell you which hotels they really are.

Recently stayed at the Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Club room and loved it. They run a shuttle around their other properties inc Orchard Rd.

Which part of Orchard Road? Note that generally, hotels within such distances from Orchard Road have a price premium attached. Another stone throw's away would get you much better value. It also depends on the budget and standard you are looking for.

I don't know how pricing will turn out, but I can vouch for the Royal Plaza on Scott's being a more than respectable hotel, in a decent Orchard Road-ish location...

I agree with the recommendation for the Royal Plaza on Scott's, it is far more reasonably priced than the others in the area (eg Hyatt, Marriot etc). In the past it has also often been the wotif mystery deal at a good rate. You can pick it by comparing the hotel facilites for distinctive items.

Holiday inn atrium is quite nice and usually reasonably priced.

Well, that explains why you want a diff. property - traders is a good km or two from the top of Orchard Rd and not an MRT station in easy distance either.

I can second that, it's a top property and very well done. Last renovated in 2009. Quite a few friends have stayed there, nothing but positive things to day. Also 60sec from Orchard near the corner or Pattersons and Scotts Rd. You also have the underground crossing to move between each side of the intersection b/t Shaw House, Wheelock Place, ION Orchard and Orchard MRT, and Marriott and Tangs.

Concorde Hotel at the other end of Orchard near Istana Park has also been reasonable amongst my friends that have stayed there. Short walk to Dhoby Ghaut station as well which gives you access to the North East, North South and City Circle lines.

Hey lay it all out on a map, give us a list and we can comment. Most hotels in sinkers are great. Taxis are cheap as well so it doesn't really matter where you stay if walking is not the real issue.

I need to do marina sands next time. Whose been there?

I love Traders! I know the rooms are small and the TV's are old but I find the staff are great and the pool area is also a real plus. The renovated health club is also great. And for extended stays the supermarket downstairs is handy to grab some supplies for the room (like cans of Tiger to replace the ones from teh mini bar :p). The price you quote is expensive though - just booked some dates in Dec for around 220 a night.

If you're ever splashing out though - we stayed at the St Regis in Dec which was really quite amazing.

On the casino front, you can smoke in both casinos but only one seems to understand that smoke travels. The Sentose casino (does it have a name?) is very pleasant and smoke free for a large part. It also has lower table limits I think (did not hit MBS this time so not certain of my memory).

Also, never stayed at royal plaza but folks liked it a lot, before they discovered the Fairmont.

I find it hard to go past some of the hotels around Marina Bay or Raffles areas. Stayed at Pan Pacific over a year ago and the room rates were under $300/night...and it was hands down the best service ive had a hotel.
