Longest airport walks! Have they got this correct?

...

As for the longest I have done, definitely the JFK Mile.
JFK? At T8 the longest from the entry (via the F/L (10) of course) is to the AeAgle gates ... (31) ...

Would be interesting to see the shortest walk.

Shortest walk would probably be a bunch of regional airports. Some random ones in Australia have terminals no bigger than a normal city worker's office.

As for shortest walk in a terminal which serves international flights, well LCY springs to mind, but I'm sure there must be shorter walks.

From memory HKT was not big at all. A couple of shops and a lounge somewhere. I don't even remember aerobridges although it may have changed since.

TXL gets a special prize at the moment- tiny old terminal with some temporary metal sheds attached but the entire place is full with way too many people: With the new airport delayed until who-knows-when but most airlines having already upped traffic significantly, it's probably one of the most chaotic airports at the moment. You wouldn't think that you've just landed in the capital of Europe's strongest economy when you see those masses of airplanes boarding and de-boarding via stairs at the sides of the taxi ways. The mess is handled with Teutonic efficiency but still...

Haven't used to as a departure airport, but the design of TXL's terminal A (basically a hexagon type shape) makes it very compact. I suspect that it also makes it pretty hard to expand though, which is one of the reasons Berlin may have decided to use SXF as the base of the new airport.

I <3 good old Tegel, personally I am happy about any further delay with the new one- it will be such a loss when TXL is gone :-|

From the QF gate in T2 FRA, walk to the train, quick transfer to T1, walk all the way (via immigration) to end of T2 for a flight to GRZ only to be transported back to an apron somewhere near T2 - it's a long walk, easily the longest I have taken in an airport. (concourse E to A)

I vote for:

  • ORD
  • BKK
  • PVG
  • HKG - yes there is a train, but by the time you have to go down the escalators, wait for the train, then go up its usually just as inconvenient to walk the length of the terminal...
  • even NRT is a bit of a hike (disembarking AND getting to your gate)

Most annoying airports - SYD and MEL - long winding walks that seem to go in a circle just to accommodate shopping shopping and more shopping

FRA has to be one the most annoying walks you have to make, especially when you have make a connecting flight from when one terminal to another. Even with the train it seems like a never ending walk with no travelators and even longer when dragging an elderly parent along who has been complaining 20+ hours from Australia!

MEL before the renovations was basically a straight line, maybe a couple hundred metres but with all the totally new unnecessary overpriced duty free shops it feels like a km doing that loop to get to your gate.

SIN would be much worse if it had no travelators, but even so it is still a long distance between gates.

I guess most Airports everybody has mentioned are usually hub airports and have way too much duty free.

I guess the shortest walks are the small airports with no Aerobridges. At SPU after getting off the plane, getting through immigration and after collecting your bag is like 100m to the kerb.

Shortest? ORD. I was de-planed after a plane went tech, and walked to the gate directly opposite, around 10m to board another flight that I was protected on to :)

I got off an aircraft at Gate 10 in SYD last Monday and walked straight onboard an aircraft at Gate 9.

In the terminal for well under 5 min.

I think in all the years i've been flying, i've only ever had it as good as ORD once :)

I've had gate 2 at SYD when doing international connections which is almost as good, especially when it's busy and you have a short connection.

If only we all got as luck as 10/9 :)
