Anyone flown them? Comments? Thoughts?

They've just given me a group quote from Mel to Lhr next year and the price is very very good for the peak season dates. They also credit to QF which is handy for some of my clients.

Looked at Skytrax for reviews (mixed) but would prefer some info here.

Any comments on both Y and J with them appreciated

Flown them domestically (in China) and they were fine. probably better than China Southern.
Unsure internationally.

Flew with them last year, Shanghai Airlines out of Melb to Pudong. Plane is rubbish, old and seen better days. Service was OK, but FA are really just domestic, and their English skills are just bearable. They served us white wine at room temp, also IFE didn't work, they used handneld IFE.
Pudong to LHR was with a China Eastern plane and was OK to good. Chinese airlines have still not got the idea of service, and do have a lot to learn. By the way the Pudong J lounge was nothing to write home about. We flew with Royal Brunei Airlines and I liked them, see my trip report for RBA.

Have flown MEL-PVG 3 times in last 18 mths with MU.

Yes the old Wet leased Shanghai Airlines 767s are way out of date - but from Oct they are to be replaced with 330s.

Zero IFE - BYO - $2.2K ret J flts - food ex MEL fine - ex PVG questionable at best - ample alcohol - the Taittinger ran out pretty quickly on one flt but they had some good reds -what FAs lack in 'quality' of product delivery they more then make up for in 'endeavour'.

Only flew once with MU beyond China and that was to LAX a few years back - new plane - perfect hard and soft product on board.

I would readily fly MU again - the direct flts to China are such a bonus.
