Booked on to a QF flight with jet abroad.com In the frenzy to get the fare i forgot to put in middle names for me and my mate. Ticket was issued 1-2 months ago. Is there an easy way to fix this? (Middle name on passports!!)

Please someone give me good news!?

I don't think the middle name is absolutely necessary, even for flights to the US.

I hardly ever have my middle name on my bookings, and never had a problem (from an immigration/customs perspective at least.)

Where are you going?

I have never bothered with middle names on travel bookings. Never ever been an issue.

Going to Japan.

Also just checked Dad's booking to USA (He is mid flight atm..) and his is booked without his middle name, which i would say the travel agent never puts in even for all his trips to the U.S?

You should have no issues. I have even had tickets where my first name was entered as my surname and vice versa. The only issue I had was retrospectively claiming flyer miles and the airline couldn't find me on the partner flight (because of the naming issue).

I suffer from two hilarious middle names, and a three-part surname, all detailed in all their glory in my passport. I never use my middle names on bookings, and usually write my surname as one word (because half the airlines in the world join them up anyway), and have never had an issue.

I suspect an incorrect middle name would cause an issue, but lack of one - no problem!! Relax and enjoy the special.

As stated not an issued, relax :-)

On one occasion a very diligent airline agent updated my booking with my middle name when I called to enquiry about the booking.

The USA still require the middle name as part of the passport advanced information however it is not required on the passenger name for the booking itself.

For all other countries you don't need it, and I never use it. In fact adding middle names can complicate matters with name matching with frequent flyer programs, you may find points don't credit correctly unless the name matches exactly your frequent flyer program.

The US receives the info via input from the airlines when they swipe the passport so although your airline eticket itinerary/receipt may have you booked as JONES/Mary Ms the info the US authorities receive is Mary Louise Jones (as per the name in your passport).

Hello, this is information is required in advance with passport info, not when the airline swipes the passport. It's part of secureflight.

I thought I made it pretty clear your passenger name to the airline doesn't require it.

Also a lot of people make mistakes when entering this info in advance eg which expiry dates of passports so just because all the APP fields are populated & the airline has the required information doesn't means it's correct.

For example if the expiry date of the passport was entered incorrectly, the system would not be able to find the ESTA so checkin could not be completed. Swiping the passport would override any incorrect info previously entered then locate the ESTA.

Even if the pax have entered all the info correctly Uncle Sam can still be deny entry to the US if they feel like it. When the pax checks in a message is generated to DHS who will give the airline the OK to board & checkin can be completed.

Secureflight and APIS are two different things. Not sure secureflight strictly requires the passport info.
