Just wondering if QF will make available IPADS on this flight in light of the fact they will now be providing them on 767 domestic routes. Can someone enlighten why QF still flys those old 757 to HNL.

My guess is long term lease or they own them plus little completion on the route means they can get away with it.

QF is flying 767s from Sydney to Honolulu, including VH-OGS one of the younger 767s in the fleet. The original in seat entertainment system in business class in the dreamtime seats has been disabled. Handheld DVD players of very cheap quality are given out during the flight along with packs of DVDs with the current movie titles in the QF magazine.

This is a highly inferior business class product and a disgrace to the Qantas brand although the cabin crew were excellent on a recent trip I did in July.

It is worth considering the virtually new A330 service on Hawaiian which you can book through Hawaiian or as a codeshare through Virgin Australia - both given status credits and points to Virgin's Velocity scheme. Hawaiian will also be offering flights to Brisbane shortly.

Another interesting alternative is Air NZ which have a very attractively priced premium economy service from Auckland to Honolulu on a 777. Again points and credits would go to Velocity.

PS Talking to cabin crew, QF management are reported to consider the HNL-SYD route as a sink for frequent flyer points. Whatever the case, they don't take the route seriously. For example the computers in the HNL lounge even had 8 year old unsupported versions of internet explorer (IE4 from 2004) on my July trip which shows the complete contempt QF have for passengers on this route.

American has moved out of the HNL lounge and now shares with JAL.

Really? The IE version shows contempt? I do find these posts hilarious. I think the seats and IFE coupled with $11K pricing to be a tad more ridiculous.

Hence for approx $3500 I thought the Jetstar Business offering was ok (given the SC/points earn rates). The inflight iPads given out were limited in their choice of movies but the 3 of us had iPods/iPads loaded with materialwe wish to view so it wasn't an issue. The lack of water/refreshment services were much more of an issue.

I really don't get all these 767 haters that cite the QF4 767 service as "disgusting" or a "disgrace" as you call it. What exactly is disgraceful or "highly inferior" about the business class service?

I don't remember any of this vitriol when QF used the same aircraft of equally long or similar distances like MEL/SIN, BNE/HKG, PER/NRT, SYD/SGN or SYD/PEK.

Whilst quoting the lack of original IFE on VH-OGS, you neglected to mention all the other B767's that operate this service do have it. The flight in May I did (VH-OGT) in addition to the personal IFE with the loop service, had individual Panasonic DVD players which I would not have said were "highly inferior" - they did the job & played the DVD's. What brand of DVD would you deem as being acceptable or of a higher quality?

Whilst the B767's don't have Skybeds, I still find the Dreamliner seats spacious & comfortable. I have travelled twice on QF4 in J HNL/SYD, once in December 2011 & more recently in May 2012 & I would even choose to fly whY on QF over 'Business' on JQ given the choice.

Call me old fashioned but I like travelling on a Qantas plane flown by a Qantas pilot as it suits this little black duck just fine.

I also find it ridiculous that you pick on one of several points that a new member highlights and then go ahead and restate one of the other points that the member also made as part of your own argument.

Hardly reasonable treatment for a new member IMHO. -- Unless you are, as they said in the next post, laughing at Qantas and not them.

The new member appears to have been around a little as they have Plat status with both DJ & QF.

I asked the Qantas airways twitter acct this after they annnced the iPads rolling out of the 767s. They said the iPads will roll out on *all* 767s, not just the ones used domestically.
I'm not sure of the rollout schedule, but will expect to see iPads on the SYD-HNL-SYD flights for in-flight entertainment in the future.

The DVD handhelds are flimsier, less user friendly and incur need for an extra coughbersome wallet of DVDs compared to other offerings.

The dreamtime seat is yesterday's product and does not align with the price charged or product offering described by QF.

I note you yourself advise carrying an iPad on these flights on a separate thread and have only on the daytime sector (HNL-SYD) where the benefit of the skybed over the dream,time seat would be less of an issue than the overnight SYD-HNL.

The outdated software in the HNL lounge is pertinent since it could be fixed in minutes, but QF just can't be bothered even to get the simple fixable things right, let alone the things you rightfully mention.

Was in the HNL QA lounge about 20 years ago, returned twice in past 3 years, to me it looked the same, drab and so uninviting we left.

That is the acid test.

Are QF compelled to keep and improve it under the EK deal with the route being EK code share?

Lax has cough Internet and not the best facilities considering through traffic.

I have always enjoyed the dreamtime seat.

It's the crew that makes a flight and not the movie player.

I'll fly QF first, however if there is a commercial advantage to improve the relative services offered on this route, then I am sure management can work that one out.

They were "current standard" when used on those routes.

When was the 763 last used mel-sin or BNE-hkg? The upgrades to those routes tell you how out of date the 763 interior is.

Mechanically etc who cares, but the inflight product for a $11k ticket is a joke (and shown to be by the fact that JQ charge $3k for essentially the same product).

Yes $11K is a joke but both times I've flown that route it was on a JASA so much more affordable. What appealed to me was for 72,000 points plus approx $500 I could get a ticket HNL/SYD/DRW which allowed a stopover in SYD so I will use the SYD/DRW sector in my next membership year.

The cost of the KUPP fare ex Caribbean was the same for LAX or HNL & if I did a JASA ex LAX it would have cost 96K in points.

It suited my circumstances but may not be everyone elses cup of tea.
