AFF adverts - I don't mind them!

How do AFF'ers feel about the adverts on the website?

I keep getting asked/offered to get rid of them by becoming a full (paid) member.
But I don't actually want to do that because,

1. Most AFF'ers are here because they like to get a deal, a really good deal; and paying money instead of getting it for free is anathema to them.
2. I don't mind the ads - Mostly, I see them for a split second but occasionally, just occasionally, I see something I might be interested in, and click through. They seem pretty specific for AFF'ers too.

I'm with simongr on this.
Agree that there may - occasionally - have been something of interest but not worth the continuing aggravation of the ads.

Two reasons I signed up, to give something back to AFF for all the brilliant info and news this site and members have afforded me, then any decent site needs monetary assistance to survive & grow, no adverts is the bonus :).

+1, I regard my paid membership here similar to my other paid memberships for ease of business travel eg. Expert Flyer.
A clever person might even be able to claim it as a deduction ;) :p

Guilty. I managed, in a past life where I still paid for QC, to claim that too ("Work makes me travel so much and I can't cope without a lounge";)).

I gladly pay for Gold here, although before I did, I would just have used an ad blocker (there's plenty around for every browser). For me it's more about giving back to the website and community that gives to you. This is why i'm a Premium member on MilePoint and up until recently, was happy to pay for premium on Flyer Talk as well.

I pay for EF and TripIt Pro. I should claim them as tax deductions (and may well this year) as I need them to assist in planning my work trips (lest I end up in whY rather than whY+!).

I'm not paid. I find the ads interesting. On a different thread where we were discussing coffee machines, ads for kitchenware appeared. Advertising big brother is watching us!

The thing is that the ads do fund the site. I obviously don't have access to the finances of AFF so can't say if ads or paid members make a greater contribution to the funding of the site. Given that the Gold fee is a flat rate and a round sum amount - I don't expect that it is somehow calculated directly on the expected lost revenue from lack of ads clicked through...

Thanks for the reminder - need to do my tax this week and forgot about that.

Duffa,

It is always possible to pay for Gold membership and still get the ads if you feel that way inclined

I've heard, but can't see, there's even some AFF6 ads ;)

I'm a paid member because I wanted discounted QP membership, but also to support the site, and use the app.



I went gold to
a) avoid the ads
b) contribute my little bit towards AFF
c) get a discount on EF......which I've been too slack to take up yet

Really? When we do finally meet, please tell me how / why your accountant allows this!:p

An AFF membership not only gets rid of the ads but allows you to browse AND post on AFF via the AFF app on your smartphone, a very useful tool to deal with boring and mundane meetings!!

A simple membership to give a little support to the forum, plus I don't like the ads all that much
