Ethiopian offers discounted internal flights if you use them to enter and leave the country. Does this require booking the domestic legs at the same time as the international or can you buy the discounted domestic legs once you're at Addis Ababa? I'm planning to use Thai to BKK then Ethopian. Any better suggestions?

Ethiopian airlines offer a codeshare on Qantas metal to BKK if interested.
