AirAsia X Quiet Zone

Shhhh…Introducing the new Quiet Zone for all of our AirAsia X flights, because
we know that sometimes all you need is some peace and quiet for a more pleasant
journey with us.

Quiet Zone will only be available for travel from February 2013.
However, you can pre-book your Quiet Zone seats now if you are booked
to travel on February 2013 onwards.

Who is eligible for Quiet Zone?

Quiet Zone is exclusively for guests age 12 and above. Please note that if you have a member of your group that is under 12 years old, the system will not allow you to select a seat in the Quiet Zone.

I'm a fan! Seems to just be a young-kid-free zone with "soft lighting". Does nothing to guarantee you're not next to stinky noisy drunk guy, but a step in the right direction!

a no baby/kid zone has got to be a good thing. is there a bulkhead or cabin divider behind row 14? otherwise row 14 people could get a baby right behind them. is this a mini cabin?

Great Idea but how do they intend on dealing with noise from other passengers out side of the quiet zone.

Sounds a bit like the quiet zone on the trains here in BNE.

What happens if someone falls asleep and starts to snore are they going to get woken up and told to sleep quietly.

Do legacy airlines provide this service in F & J? :)

Actually I would fly them for overnight flights now that they have put this in place.

Last time I did an overnight flight there was people talking and just lots of noise that I didn't want to deal with.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to actually account for this ... just no kids! But hopefully there's a bit of an honour system, that if you book the quiet zone, be quiet dammit!

Let alone the noise from perhaps some idiots who will sit in the Quiet Zone. You know, just in case there's no more seats left in the aircraft except for those in the Quiet Zone.

Yep - just like on the trains in BNE, if someone is being a loud or inconsiderate SOB in contravention of the Quiet Carriage rules, the best you can do is tell them to be quiet. They can choose to agree or disagree. You can't sue them. You can't thump them. It's an honesty system in a society where broadly the only place where honesty can be found is in the dictionary.

Hopefully on an aircraft it's a bit easier to control things.

They get "deported" to the back of the plane where it's not the Quiet Zone?

Also, I presume there are no strict 'Quiet Zone' requirements in the premium class seating which is in the nose.

Maybe the seats are fitted with one of these :)

Choose seats at the very back on night flights and you'll 9/10 times get a whole row to yourself (and in general much quieter than any other area, apart from Premium (which is pretty good when a sale rate is on)

The problem might be where PAX are simply allocated seats in the quite zone (full flight etc) but aren't aware of it. Hence they might be noisy.

Apparently they are working on a Flatulence-free zone, where you get extra in-seat vents, and you are not served beer or refried beans.

It certainly is enforced on the Shinkansen in Japan. You wouldn't dare talk in the quiet zone!!!

Get a cranky ex High School Principal as the FA in that area and they will patrol it very well

Good idea - It will also be very easy to spot the pax which disobeyed the quiet zone rules, as they will be the ones which are forced to place their hands on their heads...
