What are the limitations of the CBR runway/taxiways/apron ? Are the airbridges suitable for widebody acft ?

The runway was damaged when G W Bush visited a few years ago and I believe the repairs were of such a standard that all current heavy planes can now land there. I heard that even the A380 could land there, wonder if that is true?

If it ever happened I would love to see it but since I am leaving I probably wont see it.

Yep, the main runway at Canberra is A380 capable.

"We can handle an Airbus A380 now" Byron told Australian Business Traveller. "We've already expanded the aprons and made improvements to the runway. It's been lengthened, strengthened and widened to 747 and A380 standard. So we've got a fully kitted-up airport, you can go anywhere off our runway with a fully-laden aircraft that you can go out of Sydney Airport."

The issue used to be the departure gradient off runway 35 due to the hills (in bad weather). The runway extension should have alleviated that a little, but most heavies in the past could not go very far from Canberra due light fuel loads (light load due weight limits to meet the gradient with a failed engine). This used to make it completely unviable.

A380 capable, but only to the extent it is used as a diversion airport, its not capable in respect to regular ops, which require airports to meet ICAO Annex 14 Category F, specifically having a runway that is 60M or more in width. Canberras RFF is also not anywhere near the required standard for 747 ops (Cat 9), let alone A380 at Cat 10, being rated at Cat 7.

Of course they could always follow SYDs lead and get an exemption, on the basis that its too costly to upgrade the runway :)

Then how do they get the generous living away from home allowance, or are you saying no one "lives" in Canberra LOL ;). From a public service perspective they are very much living in Canberra, and I am not sure what other perspective there is for Canberra, it just happens their permanent residence is not in Canberra.

It's the other way around, they get their allowances when they come to Canberra for parliament. When they return to their electorates, their allowances turn off.

You misread the comment ;).
