I was under the impression for Plat's that if there was availability then the upgrades are guaranteed. You may want to call and speak to a different agent.

Did you look on Expert Flyer?tried again, said no comp up seats available on flight, all comp up seats have been already booked, i said "wrong" there are all the 8 J seats are still unsold, ie. no one is in business class as at now as a paid fare or a comp up, nil / nada / zip!!! and she said sorry all sold out... grrrrr
