Just had to deboard DJ511 SYD-OOL and then. reboard.
Have been told the DJ boarding system failed

Dad is in MEL and spent 90 minutes in a line, but is now in the lounge and waiting for them to call him for manual boarding pass and baggage check. He's Gold and travelling J. His latest update indicated a 45 min delay.

I thought Virgin were in the process of switching to Sabre. At least that's what I heard when they rebranded.

Arrived OOL 2.5 hours late
Hundreds there, looks like a real mess.

The 1.10 to Launceston is not going until after 3.30 as the plane has only just left Sydney... Not directly Virgin's fault but they could have been a little better with announcements etc so people know where to go and what to do. I spent 1hr at the gate only to find that I need to wait yet another 1.5 hours. Could've spent it in the lounge if they told us earlier.

Update: Apparently a Power Failure at a data centre in Sydney is the cause of everyone's pain this morning.

Why a single power failure to cause so much havoc I don't know....

You'd have thought they'd have a second data centre somewhere else that could be switched to...

Thats would you would think!

They really need to make sure the switch to Sabre happens on time, as while they continue to use Navitare they will continue to look like a LCC to some degree.

Just like Amadeus made Qantas look like an LCC when it crashed back in July?

All systems have troubles from time to time. That's why they have manual processes in place.

It's a shame an airline couldn't have two systems that did the same things, running at the same time, so if one GDS went down, the other would still be up, but in guess that's a little overkill.

It will be interesting to see if Tiger eventually moves away from Navitaire as well, it would be their decision of course but having VA going to Sabre in Jan 2013 will mean that Navitaire will have to start pulling their finger out. I also note that VA and Navataire settled out of court for the Sept 2010 debacle....
