Next year (April/May) we will be visiting the UK. We will be arriving in Portsmouth (after a ferry ride from France) and want to then go on to Windsor Castle, Bletchley Park and finally to Duxford War museum. We want to take 3/4 days to cover all of this and do it in a rental car. Has anyone had any experience at picking a car up in Portsmouth and dropping it off at another location? Any recomendations/thoughts/suggestions as to a hire company to use? Two adults and two suitcases travelling.

Cheers

I'm not claiming it to be the best or cheapest, but I use vroomvroomvroom.com to compare prices among the majors, and usually then rent via it (checking that it is cheaper than going direct through the rental company, which it usually, but not always, is). I have found in the past that it provides very clear written detail as to what is and isn't included, unlike say netflights.com, which was quite scant in the emailed paperwork, which made it much more difficult fighting off the upselling at LAX.

I did a little test and found that returning to Portsmouth or another destination did not seem to affect the price (but that of course is not gospel and could change).

I'm a once-a-year type renter and IIRC have rented from Avis, Budget and Hertz in the UK without issue, and Thrifty in NZ without issue.

PS Duxford is fantastic and I probably spent 6 or 7 hours there - a long day if you wish to take in everything, and you should!

Will be in uk at the same time. Wave if you are passing

Well I spent a fair amount of time researching the options. In the end i found that there was little to separate them. So I booked via the QF site and collected ( or at least will collect) 700 QF points for going with Avis.
