China Airlines (which is actually not a China airline, but the Taiwan airline) has a 5th freedom BKK-AMS flight.

Looking at a few random dates in May, you can fly BKK-AMS return in J for 79740 Thai Baht (= AUD$2600)
or one-way BKK-AMS in J for 41415 Thai Baht = AUD$1345
Departs BKK at 1.50am, Arrives AMS 9.15am

China Airlines is also a Skyteam member.

......so ex-MEL, not too bad if you'd like to catch the Jetstar MEL-BKK (2.05pm-8.40pm) flight for $699 in Starclass.

Not knocking CAL as I have never flown with them however TK flies from BKK to most EU destination for about $3000 return in J and the are a *A member for points/status. I would tend to stump the extra $400.

Finnair too if you're OW inclined.

It is reasonable and the times are perfect for me. China air web site looks like it is a direct flight. Am I right in making this assumption? If so this is brilliant for a direct flight compared to KLM or Thai to Europe.

:pConsidering up grading to Business class. Any comments on the Business experience ? Will combine with Royal Brunei which is more convenient than QF via Sydney or jetstar which is more expensive if you include some food and baggage. Thanks for the info.
